For this freshers week the Gaudie is hosting a murder mystery evening.

At 6pm a “secret society” will meet for the last time after one of the members has turned up dead and they have been disbanded. Everyone is a suspect and the bond between the members grows fragile. Can you be the first to discover who did it or will the blood coat your hands?

The event will be held at Siberia bar and hotel on Belmont Street at 6pm. Anyone is welcomed to join!

Tickets are £5pp, this money will be used for production costs to keep your favourite newspaper in print!

🎙The Scottish Goverment should increase funding to universities, argues Aberdeen University's chief.

Professor Edwards pointed out that real terms funding from the government to universities has reduced by 20% over the last decade.

The Pricipal said this poses a financial challenge to University of Aberdeen, alongside dwindling revenue from international students.

🎙Aberdeen University's chief refused to state his pay in our interview with him.

Repeatedly avoiding questions on his salary, Professor Edwards insisted that the figure was publicly available.

As of November 2025, his yearly salary was £255k-£260k, according to a Freedom of Information request submitted by The Gaudie.

Staff unions UCU, UNISON and Unite alongside the National Union of Students have previously criticised high pay to senior management who are cutting jobs.

🎙Professor Pete Edwards joined us in our first interview since his two-year term began last November.

The principal said minimum student-staff ratios, which have been criticised for disproportionately targeting humanities and social sciences, are "to inform bugeting".

Staff were recently informed that up to 111 full-time equivalent jobs will be axed over the coming months.

This comes after proposals were approved for a minimum of 20 students for each staff member in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) courses, and a minimum of 25 students for each staff member in SHAPE (Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts for People and the Economy) courses, as well as a decision to immediately stop recruitment to postgraduate taught programmes consistently recruiting fewer than six students.

University of Aberdeen Interim Senior Governor Gary McRae explains restructuring plans as staff announce 10 days of strikes.

If approved, proposals would see the replacement of the university’s 12 schools with four faculties and mandated minimum student numbers requiring at least 20 or 25 students per staff member in academic courses (depending on the subject), 10+ students on all degree programmes, and minimum six students on PGT programmes.
