Snow day #2!

❄All schools and council-run nurseries will again be CLOSED tomorrow (Tuesday).❄

The decision has been taken based on a range of factors impacting on our schools’ ability to open safely.

Aberdeenshire Council will continue to monitor Met Office updates and work in liaison with our teams and partner services to inform further decision-making for Wednesday and beyond.

👉An update will be provided on this tomorrow.

We’ve had more than 200 personnel working across the roads network today and we continue to be supported by more than 100 contractor and farmer ploughs who have been assisting in snow clearing operations.

Once again all our primary routes will be treated from 6pm tonight and again tomorrow from 5.30am, with footpath and secondary routes getting treatment throughout tomorrow from 7am as resources and conditions dictate.

There will be more wintry showers this evening and overnight and road surface temperatures will be well below zero with the risk of ice and hoar frost.

There’s a Met Office yellow warning from midnight tonight throughout Tuesday with snow and ice likely to bring further disruption.

What to expect
• Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
• Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
• Some rural communities could become cut off
• Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable
• Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

⚠ If you can, check on neighbours – especially those who are elderly, vulnerable or living alone.

All Aberdeenshire Schools closed on Monday

❄ALL schools and Aberdeenshire Council-run nurseries across will be CLOSED tomorrow (Monday) due to the weather. ❄

The decision comes following a further Amber weather warning for snow across north and northeast Scotland. The Amber warning runs from 6pm this evening through to 10am tomorrow.

In addition, the Yellow warning for snow and ice remains through to the end of Tuesday.

Over the next 24 hours, accumulations of 2-5cm of snow are expected widely, with closer to 10cm for roads in the north.

👉Aberdeenshire Council’s education team will be reassessing the situation tomorrow (Monday) and will provide further updates then.

👉Gritting crews will be out tonight (Sunday) from 6pm and tomorrow (Monday) from 5.30am on primary routes with secondary routes and pavements being treated from 7am. Over the last few days, more than 100 contractor and farmer ploughs have been assisting in snow clearing operations.
