IT’S National Radio Day which honours one of the world’s greatest inventions that has contributed to national and international communication.
For those in the media, it’s a day to acknowledge the importance and significance of radio and as a media platform globally.
As one of the most influential mediums for communication and entertainment that is still going strong, radio serves various purposes, from news to sports broadcasts to music and talk shows, offering a wide range of content carried across the airwaves.
The first radio news programme was broadcast on August 31, 1920 in Detroit. The UK followed in 1922 when The British Broadcasting company, as the BBC was originally called, launched its first daily radio service in London on November 14.

Following a re-organisation of the local health board, Pen-Y-Fal was closed down in 1996, and the station was transferred to the grounds of Nevill Hall Hospital, where it broadcast for many years.
