The Rùm Cuillin ridge on the left and the Sgùrr of Eigg on the right. Sanna point in front of Eigg. We have been enjoying some nice calm dry days and are happy to welcome the Spring equinox 9.01 am today, it marks the transition from winter to spring. The days will be brighter and longer than the nights and we all need a good bit of daylight and hopefully some more sun on our faces 😊

Waves crashing on the rocks near the lighthouse in Ardnamurchan.
There is a great light on Beinn na Seilg with the dark ominous clouds above.
Beinn na Seilg, like a lot of hills, changes a lot from different angles. She is the second highest of the bumpy high hills around Kilchaon.
Well worth a walk to the summit. It’s a strange hill though, you get to what you think is the summit and look 👀 over and see a similar summit 🧐 Ach well, close enough! Time to get the Thermos flask out and hope the tea is not too stewed, find the oatcakes and cheese in the grease proof paper in the Tupperware container. The tea was always so good!
As kids my mother would take a gee and decide we would go on a big walk 🥴 the picnic and if we could go to the twin lochs from the Sonachan side, we were always keen as there was a door and other quite large bits of a plane that had crashed. It was around a rock near one of the twin lochs on the Sonachan side. I could still find the rock if I had the energy to go up there. There was always a bit of rivalry to be the first to run and find it again. There is now a Cairn. It contains wee bits of the remains of the wreckage of the Hurricane fighter plane which crashed into cliff in 6th February 1944 killing RNZAF Flight Lieutenant Arthur Woodgate of 516 Squadron 26 Group Bomber Command. The pilot was returning from a D-Day Combined Ops exercise at the Singing Sands when he and his two accompanying pilots became lost in bad visibility. Foggy day. In the 80s I remember some relatives of the pilot staying in Sonachan and they put a plaque up there for Flight Lieutenan Woodgate and the other pilot who died.
Well that was an expected direction this photo took me in! The photo was taken by Martin 🧐 ehh I’ll remember and add it.

Friday 7th February and it is kilchoan Community Lunch day. These lunches are happening on different days/dates in different villages. Helping to brighten up the Winter and keep everyone in touch. All ages attend. There is no charge and if you would like to leave a donation it is welcomed. Keep an eye open to see when your community are hosting their lunch. Strontian, Acharacle, lochaline and kilchoan choose their own dates. It is a fun catch up, it happens once a fortnight, usually on a Friday in kilchoan in the Winter. The food is cooked fresh in the kilchoan community centre kitchen by Becah and Olivia, they are often on the look out for different volunteers to greet, serve , chat and do the dishes 😁 Then if you were busy helping last time, you can sit and enjoy today 🤗

Contemporary tableware wheel-thrown or hand-built by potter Anna MacDonald in Ardnamurchan, a peninsula which marks the most westerly point on the mainland. Her current collection is inspired by the Hebridean shoreline of Tiree where she grew up. The satisfying texture of a grooved, ridged limpet shell or a sea-smoothed pebble is re-created in her pieces and her glazes reflect the moods of the sea in storm or sunshine, the silvery-white beaches and the soft pink of shells. Anna uses traditional small-batch production methods although modern equipment such as an electric wheel and kiln make life a lot easier.

The name Eòrna is the Gaelic word for barley – Tiree is poetically known as Tir Ìosal an Eòrna or ‘the Low-lying Land of the Barley.’
