These lovely photos of horses Rocket and Peter (and their riders) were taken by Cllr Simon Eardley at this weekend’s Soldiers & Citizens event at Chester Castle and Agricola Tower.

Visitors were able to watch the horses take to the field with their cavalry trooper riders, retelling part of the English Civil War as they brought the sights and sounds of 1645 back to life.

People were able to get a sense of what cavalry activity might have been like during the Great Siege of Chester and the Battle of Rowton Moor.

English Heritage volunteers said more than 1,100 people attended the event over the weekend - adding that details would be announced shortly of seasonal events over the Halloween and Christmas periods.
