Don’t get me wrong, Tom isn’t always my favourite, some of the most popular and raved about scents are those that I personally cannot deal with. But these? Yes please

Now this is a soul deep love affair, I can honestly say that, with the private line in particular (unfortunately for my finances), there is not a single fragrance that I don’t adore, or even if I wouldn’t wear it, I can appreciate the craftsmanship behind it.

For me, Dior fragrances are a representation of truly classic perfumery. Minimalist, timeless and excellently crafted. You can say what you like about them, criticise them because they don’t burst into a room and fill the space immediately, but they do leave a lasting impression and represent artistry.

I don’t like vanilla fragrances…but here are 10 that are just sublime

Okay to say I don’t like vanilla fragrances is a bit of an exaggeration because I actually love vanilla scents, it’s completely down to how the note is balanced and portrayed.

Vanilla in its true form is raw, earthy and even dirty, a natural, rounded sweetness that smells as if you have just scraped a vanilla pod…it is not buttercream icing, a Millie’s cookie or a vanilla Frappuccino, which is what a huge amount of vanilla fragrances lean towards.

If I were to align it with baking, it’s the difference between vanilla extract and vanilla essence, one has a slightly bitter quality, one is sugar in liquid form.

I’m not saying that you are wrong if you do like the much sweeter, more candied gourmand approach, fragrance is so incredibly personal and a perfume can be adored by so many while despised by others, it’s just that the sugary, candied, caramelised side of gourmand is not a scent profile that I lean into. You might dislike the perfumes that I adore most, there’s nothing wrong with that either, scent is individuality.

These are examples of, in my own opinion, a stunning, complex, raw use of vanilla, which can appear at different points throughout the scent, from immediately on the opening, to a darker, ambered dry down.

Okay there’s one missing I know…but it’s only a matter of time before Crystal Saffron Extrait completes the lineup

Everyone knows for their fragrances, which are undoubtedly exceptional, but it baffles me that there so little appreciation for their candles and lifestyle range… the formulas of their hand & body line are so luxurious while still retaining the true core fragrances and scents that are so recognisable. Don’t even get me started on the candles, a full breakdown is coming for those!

Fragrances I wore last week ✨

The final week of August already felt like the beginning of autumn as Scotland has been giving us those first unmistakable signs of the season ahead... cooler mornings, darker skies, rainy afternoons and that slight shift in the air, so naturally my fragrance wardrobe has started moving in the same direction.

More woods, patchouli, leather, incense and warmer textures, while still leaving room for a few scents that bridge the gap between summer and autumn beautifully.

✨ Aesop Unforeseen Aer - aromatic, woody and mineral, with a dry clarity that feels perfect for this point in the season.
✨ YSL Tuxedo Sharp Patchouli + Chloé Cedrus Intense - polished patchouli and dark cedar, creating a beautifully tailored autumnal pairing.
✨ Fragrance du Bois Patchouli Gourmand - rich, creamy patchouli with just enough sweetness to make it feel indulgent.
✨ Matière Première Encens Suave + Byredo Eyes Closed - worn together but not layered, their incense, spice and warmth created an unexpectedly compelling autumn atmosphere.
✨ Chanel Platinum Égoïste - crisp, aromatic and an underrated classic; a masculine scent I will forever have in my collection.
✨ Dior Cuir Saddle + Dior Jasmin des Anges Esprit - supple leather softened by luminous jasmine and honeyed warmth. A gorgeous new discovery.
