What is your favourite memory from riding Hyperia at THORPE PARK over the past 2 years? 🪽

For me, it was probably opening day on the 24th May 2024. This was the first coaster I ever watched get built and visited on its opening day and the fact it is a UK record holder makes it that one bit better. I remember the first drop and the outer bank into the downwards heartline roll so vividly from my first ever ride!

Even though you can’t access The Towers properly anymore, I love how you can still get into the old chapel.

Not many people go in here but it’s a nice quiet and cool place to come occasionally, especially in this weather. ☀️

The Smiler and Oblivion are two of Alton Towers biggest thrill coasters, both located in X-Sector. Oblivion opened back in 1998 and was the world’s first B&M Dive Coaster and The Smiler opened in 2013 as the world’s first Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster, which one is the better ride in your opinion though? 🤔

The Smiler opened as the world’s most inverting coaster, featuring 14 inversions and it still holds that record to this day. With it being one of the longest UK coasters and being situated in such a small area, the track is so compact which makes it fun to watch offride! When the Marmaliser is fully working, it makes the ride just that bit more chaotic too. The soundtrack fits the theme (even if it is a bit annoying on repeat) and the theme itself is just mental.

Oblivion opened as the world’s first vertical drop coaster (at 87.5°) and it features one of, if not the deepest tunnel on any coaster in the world at 35m (115ft) underground. The ride is far smoother than The Smiler even though it is 15 years older. Even if it is shorter, it is still far more re-rideable! I would say The Smiler’s soundtrack fits the theme of The Smiler more than Oblivion’s soundtrack fits Oblivion but Oblivion’s is just iconic.

I personally prefer Oblivion but The Smiler is also good, are you team Smiler 😁 or team Oblivion 🕳️?

Like I did with Thorpe Park, out of the less major Alton Towers coasters, which one is the best? Is it the world’s first B&M Flying Coaster Galactica, maybe it’s the world’s first B&M Dive Coaster Oblivion, what about the first Intamin Multi Dimensional Coaster Th13teen or even one of the last hydraulic launch coasters left in the world, Rita! 🚀🕳️🪾🏎️

What are your thoughts on the world’s only hydraulic launched wing coaster, Furius Baco at PortAventura Park? 🤔

Furius Baco opened in 2007 as Europe’s fastest coaster at 83.9mph, beating Stealth at Thorpe Park for that record. The ride was beaten temporarily in 2013 by Ring Racer in Germany before that closed 4 days after opening; it was officially beaten by Hyperion at Energylandia in 2018. It also currently holds the world record for the fastest launch coaster with an inversion. ➰

The layout is also quite weird, it hugs the terrain pretty much the entire time through banked turns so therefore keeps most of its speed throughout the ride. The theming is also just… weird. It’s themed to a vineyard and you are riding the machine that the inventor has created but it goes wrong because of the inventors monkey assistant (yeah…). 🍇🐒

I think this ride is very much a marmite coaster, some people love it, some people hate it; I think I’m closer to the ‘hate’ side. I’m not a fan due to how rough it is, I even got the smoothest seat on the ride when I did ride it (front row, inner seat).

What are your thoughts of The Curse at Alton Manor’s pre-show, is it the best one at Alton Towers or does the likes of Wicker Man, Hex or Nemesis Reborn take the top spot?
