24 Hours of 'Number 2s'
OUR EARTH WEEK 2025
Lake District Radio takes on 24 hours of “Number 2s” for Our Earth Week
At 8am on Friday 14th November 2025, Lake District Radio presenter Lee Durrant will kick off a 24-hour live broadcast unlike any other, celebrating the great singles that peaked at number 2 and highlighting one of the most pressing environmental issues facing the UK: the ongoing problem of sewage spillage into our lakes, rivers and seas.
The marathon show, will feature back-to-back songs that almost reached the top of the charts – but never quite made it to number 1. Each hour will focus on a different decade or genre, from 50s to present day and Britpop to Indie anthems. But the show isn’t just about great music. As water treatment companies continue to pump their own “number 2s” into our waterways, Lee will be using the power of community radio to raise awareness and inspire change.
Across the 24 hours, Lee will be joined by a mix of guests including local campaigners from Save Windermere, environmental experts, and representatives from water companies such as United Utilities. Together they will explore the scale of the pollution problem, the impact on communities, and – most importantly – what can be done to protect our precious waterways.
Presenter Lee Durrant says: “It’s going to be a tough 24 hours, but if it gets people talking about what’s happening to our lakes, rivers and seas, it will be worth every minute.”
24 hours of Number 2’s is presented in collaboration with Our Earth Week: a national celebration of nature and climate action, with local radio stations across the country coming together for seven days of conversation, creativity, and solutions. This year’s theme is Water, making the Number 2’s marathon broadcast the
perfect soundtrack to a week of awareness, action and hope. Lake District Radio invites everyone to tune in, join the conversation, and show their support for clean and safe water.
Listeners can follow updates, share their own stories, and support the campaign by connecting with Lake District Radio on social media throughout the broadcast.
