River Dee and Queens Park Bridge
The bridge spans the River Dee in Chester, linking Queen’s Park (on the south side) with The Groves in the main city.
The first bridge on this site was built in 1852, initiated by Enoch Gerrard, who developed Queen’s Park.
According to historical descriptions, it had a “spider-like” construction but was considered strong and well-engineered.
The original bridge was demolished in August 1922, and a new one was built.
The replacement was designed by Charles Greenwood, Chester’s City Engineer and Surveyor.
It officially opened on 18 April 1923.
