Last week we looked at a few monologues with participants interested in acting. We used masks to try and separate the character from the actor to craft more natural performances. It was really great to see people have a go, everyone did really well! 🎭

Today is the anniversary of our Eglinton shoot for ‘Piece of Mind (2025)’!

This is particularly special to us because it was the culmination of our production for last year’s short. It really felt like a build up and a payoff for all of the time and effort we had put in to our craft. We want to thank everyone again for their dedication and time to help getting this scene in particular finished!

Stay tuned for something really exciting that may or may not go into more depth about how we accomplished this scene. Keep your eyes peeled 👀!

FILMING IN GLASGOW/NORTH AYRSHIRE

13/05/2026

A short film created by members of Next Take as part of the 'Our Glen' project, led by Fiona Macintosh and exhibited with Craft Town Scotland earlier this year.

'Our Glen' was an outdoor learning project for primary 5 and 6 pupils in West Kilbride, encouraging the importance of learning outdoors beyond the classroom and appreciating the earlier civilisations that once lived in the same areas we do today. The project culminated in the creation of original artwork by the pupils, which was exhibited at the The Barony Centre earlier this year.

The film was directed, filmed, and edited by Max McGregor, with pupils from the primary school taking part in workshops where they operated cameras and sound equipment, and interviewed each other as part of the filmmaking process.

Tuition was carried out by Max McGregor, Daniel Kerr, and Archie Nelson.

Made in collaboration between Next Take, Craft Town Scotland, and West Kilbride Primary School.

Thanks so much to the Harbour Arts Centre for letting us film in their cinema! Stay tuned! 🎥😁

🎬 FILMMAKING OPPORTUNITY!

This year, Next Take - a youth-led filmmaking organisation based in North Ayrshire - is entering pre-production on a new educational short filmmaking project aimed at those aged 16-25! The project follows on from the creation of our award-winning film, Piece of Mind, which you can watch on our YouTube!

🎥 Who is this for?
- If you live in Scotland and you’re interested in telling stories through film and developing your experience and skills on any aspect of filmmaking – this project is for you.
- Led by a passionate team of young filmmakers and young industry professionals, building networks and meeting like-minded people is at the heart of what we do.
- As young people ourselves, we understand how challenging it can be to pursue creative ambitions and bridge the gap between learning and professional work. This project is designed by young people actively navigating that journey, to support others in the same position and help make that transition more accessible.
- The project is open to those with or without experience, with opportunities suited to a range of interests, skill levels, and personal goals.
The project will be structured like a real film production, with additional dedicated time for workshops, teaching, and development as we progress.

🌟 Choose an area of filmmaking
As part of the project, you’ll be able to focus on an area that suits your interests:
🎭 Acting - Work with a BAFTA award-winning actor to develop performance skills and bring characters to life
🎬 Visual Development - Plan shots, scenes, and camera work
🎥 Technical - Learn how to use professional cameras, sound, and lighting equipment
🎨 Production Design - Bring the setting and world of the film to life.

❓ Why Get Involved?
• Gain valuable hands-on filmmaking experience
• Work and learn alongside other young people through film
• Build your confidence, creativity, and skills
• Have a voice behind an original, youth-led film
• Be involved with a film production this summer
• Create something for your CV, portfolio, or showreel

📍 Project Details
• Location: Ardrossan Youth Centre
• When: Weekly sessions (Saturday or Sunday)
• Who: Ages 16-25
• Cost: Free

Another really interesting workshop for our 2026 Filmmaking Project!

We’re looking at the initial development of a short film, exploring themes, and beginning to think about writing! ✍️

We’re honestly so excited to see where things go and build on what we accomplished with ‘Piece of Mind’ (2025)

Keep an eye out! 🎥😁👀
