❗Gosford Forest Park turning lane - latest update ❗

The junction, which opens directly onto a high volume of fast-moving traffic along the main Gosford Road, has witnessed multiple collisions and near misses close to the entrance over the years.

DUP MLA Gareth Wilson has been a leading voice behind the need for safety measures to be introduced - including the proposal of a footbridge and right hand turning lane.

Introduction of a turning lane would allow traffic coming from Newry to move into a dedicated centralised lane while awaiting a break in oncoming traffic from Armagh, in order to access the park.

Today, Armagh I joined Mr Wilson along with a representative from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to discuss the potential for safety measures being introduced to the entrance way.

After previous 'positive' conversations about the potential of a right-hand turn lane, today's meeting didn't go quite in the MLA's favour...

This is a reimagining of The Franciscan Friary in the heart of Armagh back in its heyday around 1440 AD as per what historians think the entire complex would have looked like. The Franciscans lived in poverty but were charitable, cared for the poor and sick and supported all aspects of religious life in the city.

Based on the surviving ruins, Armagh's friary church was one of the longest Franciscan friary churches in Ireland. It declined sometime around 1542 coinciding with the reign of King Henry VIII.
