🎄 This week, Skimmia Celebrations are giving us a touch of winter magic. Even in the coldest months, when most plants have gone dormant, Skimmia provides vibrant colour and structure, making it a favourite for borders, containers, and woodland gardens. Its evergreen foliage offers year-round interest, while the rich red berries add a festive flourish that seems almost made for the Christmas season.

🌏 Native to Japan, China, and the Himalayas, Skimmia carries a fascinating cultural history. Its name is believed to derive from the Japanese word shikimi, which referred to aromatic plants used in ceremonial practices. Planting a Skimmia is not just a horticultural choice – it is also a nod to centuries of botanical tradition.

🍋 Also on this week's Availability List is a distant botanical cousin – both are members of the citrus family – our Meyer’s Lemon. We also have Heuchera, Camellia, Euphorbia, and Fatsia looking particularly good at the moment.

✨Our Cordyline Magic Star has got the name, and with it's festive colours is a great addition to the garden or a nice pot. Its trunk is redder than a reindeer's nose and its leaves are pointier than an elf's ears!

🌸This week’s Availability List, emailed to our trade customers, features two standout camellias: ‘Señorita’ and ‘Donation’. ‘Señorita’ is an eye-catching evergreen with peony‑form rose‑pink blooms, developed from the well‑regarded Williamsii hybrids, offering winter‑to‑spring colour and glossy foliage. ‘Donation’ is also a distinguished Williamsii hybrid raised at Borde Hill, West Sussex, bearing semi‑double, orchid‑pink flowers with some deeper tones, flowering from late winter into spring. Upright, vigorous, and reliably floriferous, both plants provide evergreen structure and show-stopping winter interest.

🌿 Welcome Amelia! 🌿

This half term, we would like to welcome Amelia Quayle-Diez from St Philip Howard Catholic School Sixth Form to the Farplants marketing team with Jennifer Brown.

Amelia originally had her sights set on studying Economics and Politics, but has discovered that that marketing is where her passion truly lies, so she has come to Farplants to broaden her knowledge on marketing and gain some experience. 🎯

It has been a wet week for crop walks, but it’s always worth it to see the bursts of beautiful colour across our nurseries. Despite the showers, plants like Skimmia Perosa are shining through this autumn, adding a touch of brightness to this week’s availability list.

🌿Skimmia japonica Perosa (3L) is a striking evergreen shrub that offers year-round appeal. Its attractive variegated foliage of grey-green leaves edged with creamy yellow, is complemented by dense clusters of bright red buds that add colour from autumn through the winter months.
