Contributor Spotlight: John Minter
Travel with Spirit has been delighted to have John Minter on board from the very beginning. John has spent a lifetime on the water. A passionate and accomplished sailor, he has long been drawn to the rhythm of the tides and the freedom of life at sea.

His varied career has taken him through industry, the Territorial Army, and regional journalism, giving him a wealth of real-world experience to draw upon. A former editor of the Sussex-based Rye News and an accomplished author, John is currently at work on the second book of a trilogy inspired by a fictional port on the Sussex coast. No guessing which town it's based upon!

With his yacht doubling as both office and inspiration, John brings an authentic seafarer’s perspective to Travel with Spirit—writing with insight, humour, and a deep respect for the sea and those who make their lives around it.

We sent him to the recent Southampton International Boat Show, where, he explains, "the Boat Show isn’t just about buying boats. It’s about rekindling the dream – the simple pull of the sea, the creak of rigging, the promise of adventure. Whether your dream is a £3 million palace or a second-hand cruiser with stories in her timbers, there’s nothing quite like a tall ship and a star to steer her by."

“As a secondary school History teacher, I had always known I would visit Auschwitz one day. Yet clicking ‘purchase tickets’ felt disturbingly easy, as if booking a trip to a death camp should never sit alongside tickets for salt mines or galleries. It unsettled me. And yet — perhaps that ease of access ensures people do come, ensures they confront this place, pay respects, and carry forward its warnings so such an atrocity never happens again.”

Thanks to the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne for sharing one of our stories from the September edition of Travel with Spirit.

Journalist Chris Lawson has put the Memorial in the spotlight in Travel with Spirit with his moving piece, 'The Silence After the Roar' ✈️

He points out: "Visiting in the 85th anniversary year adds a poignant weight. Time has thinned the ranks of living veterans, but their stories, their courage and their loss still hang in the air here. As you stand on that cliff edge, the Channel gleaming below, it’s easy to imagine the silver wings banking and turning far above, sunlight flashing off their fuselages."
