Never have any of us seen such a creation, but the chicken who laid it certainly meant business…

Which leaves the question… for cake making purposes.. does this equate to 4 eggs..?!

The tups have come out away from the main flock of ewes now…

No apparent returns after the crayons were changed on their last cycle so we are hopeful for a tighter lambing for 2026 thank we’ve seen in the previous few years 🤞

A few stragglers who haven’t been served by the tups yet, in some of our side groups of ewes, have been left in with the boys for another cycle…

Once they have been served, the boys can then kick their feet up for the next 40 or so weeks 🤣😴

Cider Season is upon us 🍎🍏

We have Browns, Yarlington Mill, Sweet Awford, Bulmers Norman and Dabinetts to name the main of our cider apple varieties…

All will be collected up over the next few weeks and sold to another local family business who will juice them and then sell the juice on to be made into cider 🍺

Any item can be swapped in or out of the box too.

You may have noticed that many farmers will put up posts here to announce that they have meat, vegetables, or other products available next week or next month and availability is limited

This is because they don’t mass produce food and often it is more slowly grown or reared and its production is still largely governed by the seasons.

But seasonal or limited availability should be a cause for celebration rather than a source of frustration. Because what you get is some really great tasting food produced the way Mother Nature intended. Healthy food that’s good for you and kind to nature and the planet.

My top tip for anyone wanting to enjoy great food sold direct from farms is to follow us and the farmers you want to buy from on Facebook and Instagram to keep abreast of what’s in season and what’s on offer.

If looks could kill…

It’s safe to say that the Dexter community here at Longridge are very unimpressed by the recent calf weaning activities…

They have had a lot so say about their disapproval and the farm has been a very noisy place..

The actual cows and calves who underwent the weaning appear to be the least bothered…

The youngstock, fat animals and Ruby Louise who hasn’t even been weaned from her calves yet are the most disgruntled and noisiest!

Apologies to all surrounding neighbours, hopefully normality (and quietness) will be restored very soon!
