Book Trust event in partnership with the Crobeag Estate, to whom we are extremely grateful for their support and assistance.

The day provided an opportunity to learn about and discuss this important scheduled historic monument before participants enjoyed a guided visit to the island. Thanks to the generosity of Crobeag Estate, a limited number of cars were able to travel along the private estate road, allowing access as close as possible to the causeway.

The event began at the Resource Centre in Kershader, South Lochs, where participants attended an illustrated talk exploring the history of the tidal island of Eilean Chaluim Chille (St Columba's Isle), located near the mouth of Loch Erisort. The talk focused particularly on the remains of the early church dedicated to St Columba (Eaglais Chaluim Chille), together with its associated graveyard and burial enclosures.

Participants travelled by shared cars to Crobeag and crossed the causeway at low tide to visit the island. The group explored the historic church site, graveyard and burial enclosures while enjoying favourable walking conditions across the beach and causeway.

The walk from the causeway to the church proved accessible, covering approximately 300 metres across relatively level ground. Participants spent around two hours on the island learning about its history, archaeology and cultural significance.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the day such an enjoyable and informative occasion.
