Kyrgyzstan Day 7: Our last day on the road was all tarmac and never short of amazing scenery or camaraderie! We were all dreading driving back into Bishkek a little bit but the route back to town skipped the crazy city and poured on the amazing views! We stopped at the Burana Tower and rode by the most amazingly beautiful fishing village. It was tough saying goodbye to most everyone but I had one final day left to post next!

I should be posting the last days of Kyrgyzstan next but after a long day of riding in the rain a stop at Buc-ee’s was much needed to rest and dry off before finishing the day’s ride. The DesertX is ready for some dirt tomorrow! Exciting things coming!

(To my international friends - yes Buc-ee’s is real, yes it’s everything you’ve heard and it’s glorious!)

OK back to your regularly scheduled Kyrgyzstan programming after this…

Kyrgyzstan Day 6: This was the most intense day of the trip. The roads were slightly better than the day before, and all we had to do was head back to exactly where we came from previously. But before we rode we spent the morning hiking up to lake Kel-Suu, absolutely gorgeous and pristine. To get to the hike we first rode in an old Soviet overland truck and decided we could have done 90% of the ride in 2nd gear vs. our driver’s propensity to downshift and grind off metal into the river.

The lake was the stuff of dreams as were the views from the natural dam. The ride out of the valley was made tougher by caked on mud and overheating bikes - but we made it (if not a little late) and in good spirits! Lazy Rider got a chance to relax by the bridge while we dealt with mechanical issues.

Truly a day for the history books!

Kyrgyzstan Day 5: Well this is when it got messy. Today was more about surviving the ride than seeing the sights, though wherever we stopped and rested it was beautiful.

Today we rode into the Chinese Exclusion Zone to camp near Kel-Suu Lake in the Kok Kiya Valley. Rain all night and day soaked the road into mud and we slipped and slid up and down countless mountains.

A young boy on a horse raced Tony on a straight stretch. Horse riders stopped to check out our bikes. Steve helped guide us through the deep mud near camp and I had had the deepest night of sleep the whole trip in our bunk house.

Kyrgyzstan Day 4: After leaving the yurt camp at Song-kul lake, we rode down the famous and treacherous Moldo-Ashuu Pass - lots of switchbacks and some water runoff. Then it was fun gravely and rocky roads chasing Tony Ebbs-Canavan up high again to the lookout high above the Baetov Valley and back down. We stopped at Tash Rabat to see ruins used by traders along the Silk Road and finally made our way to Naryn and a hot hotel shower and meal.
