Kimmins announces the Glenshesk Road, Ballycastle will reopen to traffic

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced that the Glenshesk Road, Ballycastle will reopen to traffic by 5pm on Monday 1 December.

Motorists should be advised that a lane closure will be in place to facilitate the construction of a masonry parapet. This final piece of work is anticipated to be completed throughout the month of December, and the Department hopes to have all temporary traffic management removed as soon as possible; however, it must be stressed that work of this nature is weather dependant.

Minister Kimmins said: “The local community will be well aware that the Glenshesk Road has been partially closed between the junctions of Glenbank Road and Greenan Road since the serious embankment failure that occurred due to severe weather conditions last year.

“Given the severity of the damage a significant engineering solution was required before we could safely reopen the road. I am pleased to say that the work is nearing completion, and the road will reopen for all road users on Monday 1 December 2025.

“I am very mindful of the impact the closure has had, and I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential maintenance work was carried out. I would also like to acknowledge all those who helped to deliver this significant infrastructure project.”

More information on the scheme is available on the Departmental website at: https://www.infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/articles/b15-glenshesk-road-ballycastle-overview.

The Glenshesk Road partially collapsed due to an embankment failure on 27 March 2024.

Each year our Family Appeal supports families who for various reasons need a little help and support at this time of year.

The appeal seeks to try and ensure children from birth to 16 years of age have a gift under the tree for Christmas morning.

We work closely with various agencies to ensure we reach those who need this kind of help.

We accept new gifts of toys/colouring in books etc and toiletries for this age group.

If you would like to donate to the appeal we have some drop off points:

Tesco - Ballymoney & Coleraine have a toy bank just outside the shop as pictured below. And they also have a shopping trolley in store that you can leave a gift in.

W & J Walker in Ballymoney have very kindly allowed us to leave a collection box.

Our Church building in Meetinghouse St is open Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9.30am and 2pm if you wish to donate.

Your donations do make a difference to many lives and last year 677 children (270 families) in Ballymoney and the Causeway Coast area were helped through this appeal.
