FARM NORTH EAST - BREAKING NEWS

Landowners' organisation, Scottish Land and Estates, has today hit out at government plans for further reforms of land ownership in Scotland - for the third time since the establishment of the Scottish Parliament.
Chairman, Mark Tennant, told SLE's annual conference in Edinburgh that the land reforms proposed by the government ran the risk of "failing rural Scotland for generations".
Mr Tennant stressed the importance of investment by the private sector to help the government reach its target of net zero by 2045.
"The investment needed to reach net zero is huge and goes way beyond what government can do alone," he said. "Estates are economic powerhouses in local economies and policy makers must take the rural business sector seriously as a delivery partner."

FARM NORTH EAST - BREAKING NEWS

A proposal to reintroduce lynx to Scotland, discussed in the Scottish Parliament on Monday, has been firmly rejected by NFU Scotland.

Commenting on the proposal, NFUS president, Martin Kennedy, said: "The union remains crystal clear that any proposals to reintroduce predators such as lynx, wolves or bears are wholly unacceptable to Scottish farmers and crofters. We call on the Scottish Government to make a clear statement rejecting such proposals permanently."

A motion by SNP MSP, Kenneth Gibson, in the parliament last Thursday calling for the reintroduction of lynx received cross party support
