Barnsley Bash - A Family Fun Day is coming to Shaw Lane Rugby Field on Saturday 22nd August, from 12pm to 5pm and it’s shaping up to be a fantastic day for the whole family while supporting Age UK Barnsley.

Here’s just some of what’s planned:

🧡 500 HANDCRAFTED STEEL DRAGONFLIES. 500 LIVES REMEMBERED 🧡

Some stories deserve more than just a passing glance... this is one of them.

Today, we had the honour of attending the launch of Barnsley Hospice's Wings of Memory at Cannon Hall.

Set within the beautiful Walled Gardens are 500 handcrafted steel dragonflies, each one representing someone who is deeply loved and dearly missed.

Together, they create one of the most moving tributes we've ever had the privilege to experience.

In this video, we meet Ella, Head of Marketing at Barnsley Hospice, George Fell the talented local sculptor and metalworker who handcrafted every single dragonfly by hand, and Mark from the gardening team, whose work helped transform the gardens into this stunning place of remembrance.

🧡 500 DRAGONFLIES, 500 PRECIOUS MEMORIES 🧡

It was an absolute honour to be invited to Cannon Hall today for a special preview of Barnsley Hospice’s beautiful Wings of Memory installation.

The Walled Gardens have been transformed by 500 handcrafted steel dragonflies, with each one dedicated in memory of someone deeply loved and missed.

Every dragonfly has been individually created by local sculptor George Fell, meaning no two are exactly the same just like the people, lives and memories they represent.

Dragonflies are often seen as symbols of transformation, reassurance and remembrance, offering a gentle reminder that those we love are never truly far away.

The installation is also supporting the vital work of Barnsley Hospice, helping it continue to provide specialist palliative and end-of-life care for patients and families across our community.

We’ve been filming, taking photographs and speaking to the people behind this incredibly moving campaign. We’ll be sharing videos, stories and pictures throughout the day.
