The Content Consultancy runs The Content Club - an online membership for small business owners to help with planning and content creation.
I also offers expert content writing services for for websites and blogs. Please allow me to introduce myself: my name is Kate Llewellyn. I set up my own small business in January 2017 and my mission is to support fellow small businesses. I know time is tight and I aim to offer help with writing and editing content for websites, newsletters and blogs, at a reasonable price and to alleviate some of
the pressure on your time. I have always loved writing and that the study of language, and I am a self-confessed pedant! MY BACKGROUND
I did my undergraduate degree at Cardiff University, focusing not only on grammar and semantics, but also learning about communication more broadly. I then read Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition at Oxford University for a Masters degree. This was such an amazing experience! The course really helped me to appreciate the importance of ‘plain English’ to aid the second language learner and to see English from a completely different perspective. My first publishing job was for Oxford University Press, working for the actual Oxford English Dictionary – it was a dream come true! I could call myself a lexicographer! I have worked for the dictionaries department three times in total and I have loved every second, working in such ‘minute detail’ with words. My main publishing experience was working for Palgrave Macmillan as a Commissioning Editor for social science textbooks. When I got the job, I simply could not believe that I would be working for an international academic book publisher. I had the most wonderful seven years. MY DRIVING FORCE
I wanted to start my own consultancy because I realised that talking to overworked, stressed, (yet!) committed, passionate small business owners how unfair it is nowadays that not only do you have to run your business (focussing on the products or services you first wanted to offer to the world), but you also have to be a legal expert, a financial guru and a social media manager! If I can take a little bit of that stress away…and help business owners to present the very best of themselves through their content, then I have had a good day!

One thing that helps me achieve a goal is accountability.
As soon as I'm held accountable by someone, there's a switch that’s flipped, and I am far more motivated and focused to achieve that goal.
When mentioned the 100 day challenge, I immediately felt drawn to get involved. So drawn in, in fact, that I've mentioned it to several other groups of friends who are all equally invested in this challenge. Let's go!
Side note - if you don't follow Kate already, you should. She shares SO MUCH knowledge, not just about marketing and running a small business, and she is inspiring and genuinely one of the loveliest humans on the planet. She recently reminded her followers that even if you aim for the moon and miss, you'll land among the stars, which ties in really nicely to the 100 day challenge.
The concept is simple - from today and for the next 100 days (which takes us to the 19th December, the last working Friday before Christmas), set yourself a goal to:
✅ complete a task/habit every day for those 100 days, and/or
✅ complete a (bigger) task within 100 days.
Another shout-out to Kate - her caveat is that it must be something that makes you feel good.
🤔 What goals am I setting?
You've probably heard the saying "The cobbler's children have no shoes"; well, this marketer has a website she doesn't tell enough people about. My business has evolved so much since my early days as a freelancer, and even though I've made some key updates to my website this year, it's still not quite where I want it to be. Full disclosure - I'm the blocker!
🎯 My first goal is that within 100 days, I will have an updated website, which I am shouting from the rooftops about.
🎯 I'm also setting myself a second goal to complete the AI for Non Techies modules. I joined this membership several months ago and have used 'being busy' as an excuse. By 19th December, I will have completed all the modules. I see all these AI tools as a virtual assistant, and I want a better understanding of which tools are right for me and how to get the most from them.
If you're feeling inspired to set a 100 day challenge and want to share it with me, I'd love to hear about it.

I am definitely a "new academic year" girl? You?
I love September. I feel excited and ready to start afresh.
I set goals/plans from April - March, so this is near my mid-year point. There is so much time to still achieve things, before the end of the calendar year too.
I am in the goo, revamping my business and my mindset...so this had to be the word to kick off September.

In a world of scams and false promises, especially on social media, this word means a lot to me. I definitely want to be a "real mensch" ...someone you turn to that you can trust to help and support you.
And to all you other business owners who are also a mensch, I see you and salute you.
Happy Word Wednesday all.
