Earth Matters, Radio Bathâs climate, environment and nature program celebrates its 4th anniversary in October. The show first broadcast in Autumn 2021 on RadioBath provides a local perspective to key global themes.
âAs presenters on local radio, giving a voice for Bath, we all feel very privileged to be able to hear so many inspirational people within our local community who are doing so much to promote biodiversity and tackle the challenges of our changing climateâ says Joanna Wright, B&NES Councillor and a presenter on the show from day one.
âAs a young person who has grown up in Bath I think itâs important that our show gives a voice to the views and actions of the cityâs younger population. I really enjoy speaking to people about what matters to them and being able to showcase the positive difference young people are making in our communitiesâ says Gracie Allen, a presenter on the show since 2023.
Over the four years Earth Matters has been broadcasting the show has covered a diverse range of topics from community efforts to rewild local spaces to interviews with Bath based, internationally acclaimed film makers. The show has also covered globally significant themes such as the UN Conference of the Parties (COP) events and spoke to Professor Loriane Whitmarsh MBE from Bath University about her role as a lead author of the crucial reports that inform those conferences Bevis Watts, CEO of Triodos Bank told the show about Beavers in the Avon following his publication of River Journey.
Nick Aslett who, alongside Joanna, has been a presenter from the beginning of the program said that âour approach from show one has been to highlight the incredible energy, knowledge and positive action that is happening all around us everyday. The people of the greater Bath area are doing amazing things and Earth Matters plans to continue to highlight this great stuff as we head into our fifth year.
To celebrate EarthMatterâs fourth birthday, the latest show has an interview with Cynthia Houniuhi, President of the Pacific Islands Students Fighting for Climate Change about her recent win at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the legal responsibility to protect present and future generations from climate harm. And a chat with Carla Denyer MP in Bristol West about her first year of being a Parliamentarian and how the new ICJ ruling will impact Parliament.
