I was reminded of this beautiful proverb by (if you don't follow her, you should!) when reading a LinkedIn post she had written.

Being true to yourself will empower others to do the same. By creating safe spaces, we enable people to bring their authentic selves, and that is what my creations are all about. Honest, vulnerable, positive, and empowering, that will always be my aim ✌️ You will always have a safe space here 💛

Have you heard of the spoon theory?

Spoon Theory is a way of explaining how life can be for some people with autism, ADHD or chronic pain conditions (but could work for others too). A spoon is used to represent a unit of energy.

Imagine in any one day, you have 12 spoons available. Activities during the day use up some of your spoons. For example: Getting dressed = 1 spoon, Showering = 2 spoons, School/work = 3 spoons, Socialising = 4 spoons, Travelling = 4 spoons (different activities use up different amounts of energy/spoons for each individual).

The more overwhelming the activity (due to sensory issues, pain, social anxieties, masking etc) the more spoons it will use up.

Using up too many spoons may mean you feel overloaded, overwhelmed, or even go into shutdown or burnout. Some days, I certainly feel like there just aren't enough spoons!! That's what this piece is about 💛
