Please contact us if you want a book and we will do our best to let you know about alternative sources. We apologise to our American friends but the added paperwork and charges make it impossible.

New book news - Andrew Swift is working on the 3rd edition of On Foot in Bath with revised walks and some new pictures. We hope to have it ready for September. Sadly, we will have to raise the price. We held the price for the 2nd edition but it will now rise to £16.99.

Kirsten Elliott is now working on a book about William Beckford's garden in Bath, disentangling fact from fiction. It will be called Beckford's Paradise Lost. Watch this space for when it will be available and the price.

We are down to our last few copies of On Foot in Bath. During this Spring, Andrew Swift will be working on a revised edition. Even though it is just three years since we produced the last edition, there have been changes.

In case you're wondering what's happening at Akeman Press, here's some updates.
Andrew Swift continues to work on his book about Bath's connections with slavery. The delay in completing it is because it's turned out to be much more complicated than he first thought. Some of the bigger families seem to have gone to some lengths to hide their connections to slavery as the campaign to abolish the slave trade gathered pace.
Meanwhile, another writer, David Williamson, is working on what looks to be a fascinating book about a neglected part of Bath's history. We hope that will soon be at the design stage. so keep your eyes open for news.
FInally, after having had complete writer's block on a book about Bath's architecture, Kirsten has decided to pick it up again and hopes to start work again soon. Its working title is 'Bath's 101 best buildings' and will tell the story of how architecture developed, from the Bronze Age to the present day.

If you are anxious about shopping and worrying about getting gifts in time for Christmas, visit our website. If you live in Bath, we'll deliver your order ourselves, right up to Christmas Eve. If we have to post it, then from Monday we'll send parcels by 1st class instead of our usual second class to make sure you get it. Last recommended posting date for that is Tuesday.

In case you're wondering - we are NOT doing Black Friday. Frankly, it's a bit of scam, encouraged by big businesses to sell off old stock and put little companies out of business. We continue to sell high quality books at affordable prices and - if you live in Bath - we are continuing to deliver your order ourselves. So delivery is prompt and reliable. A book is (or should be) for life, not just for Christmas!
