SEVEN CROWNS - HAUNTED HEAD

Compelling psych-punk from the West Country.

Punk should be more about ethos and less about sound or fitting into a scene. To that end, Bath’s Seven Crowns are punk as f**k. You won’t find them on Spotify and they’re renowned for touring places far off the beaten path - like being the first Western band to play the Indonesian island of Sulawesi since Kool and the Gang in 1981. Natur-ally, it helps if you’re music is as unconventional as your back story, and Seven Crowns are a unique beast, mixing juddering metal riffs, hardcore intensity and post-punk moodiness. Combine that powder keg with some searing vocals and theatrical flourishes and you’ve got quite the concoction. When they go long-form, like on the opening and closing numbers, things get a touch bloated - but there’s no such issues during the taut centre of this sharp six song album.

Announcement:

We have made the hard decision to bring our 50 Years Later series to an end, at least for now. The amount of work that goes into these releases is colossal, and with our other label and touring commitments we've found it increasingly difficult to give them the time and dedication that they deserve. But we feel extremely proud of these 5 albums which brought together such an incredible array of bands and artists from around the world, each paying homage to classic songs in their own unique ways.

Just take a look at this list of artists: GREEN LUNG, Raging Speedhorn, Mos Generator, Besvärjelsen, High Desert Queen, Hippie Death Cult, Sergeant Thunderhoof, The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell, Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic Children of the Knight, Son Of Boar, Ritual King, Alunah and so many more besides!

Thank you to every single musician who contributed to this series over the years. Also a massive thank you to the artist Sara-Jane Swettenham - Illustrations for always providing the most beautiful and striking art for every single record, perfectly capturing the spirit of the music and themes. Lastly, our great thanks to Tony Reed from Mos Generator for his exceptional mastering throughout.

This series was always about honouring a classic album, exactly 50 years to the date of the original. Often we would choose under-represented acts such as Budgie and Sparks, with the hope we could drive more love and admiration towards them from a community who may not be fully aware of their work. It was also a way for us to work with friends new and old, from all around the world. Getting these albums over the line, in time, was always a massive challenge with so many moving parts. But we always came through in the end.

As a celebration, we are offering complete sets of all 5 releases on both CD & Vinyl. The records will all be colour variants although we're unable to guarantee which colour as we're running low on stock. This is a great opportunity to own the complete collection at a massively reduced price.

Who knows, perhaps the series will start up again in years to come. But for now, we bid a fond farewell to 50 Years Later and thank everyone for their support over the last 5 years.

It's always nice when we can help out our friends. We've know TAT There's Always Time for a few years now since they've been rehearsing and recording at the studio. Plus.... we've known George for over 20 years since he hails from the legendary Hacksaw!

So when they were chatting to us about what to do with their music, we thought it'd be fun to put out their new album through Pale Wizard. We're all about supporting grassroots local music, and this great band are incredibly hard working and most of all, just absolutely great human beings.
