2025 has been the most extraordinary year for Joanna and Luke at Meaningful Films. ⭐ 🎥
The highlight being the screening of an hour long documentary Briefest Encounters – telling the true life love story 🩷 behind the iconic David Lean 1945 film Brief Encounter.
We can safely say we achieved the near impossible by creating and screening a film written, produced and edited by just two people in a record eight months. Of course, there had been years of research before the filming and editing began. But we did it! 🎉
The deadline was the 80th anniversary of Brief Encounter 🎬 on 26 November 2025 and we had our Premiere at The Little Theatre Cinema in Bath. It was a full house and we were supported by family and friends who helped make it a memorable occasion. 💜
The next day, we travelled up to Carnforth in Lancashire with Joanna’s actor daughter Sedona where she performed a devised theatre piece alongside the documentary and it was staged at the Heritage Centre 🚂 and home to Brief Encounter. We had great feedback from the audience which included local dignitaries and volunteers at the museum.
We had two more double bill screenings 🎞️ in Bath and there are plans to screen Brief Encounter and Briefest Encounters around the country next year and at Film Festivals.
This year we also did some filming for the charity Victim Support as part of our ongoing project work with them.
We created a fundraising video for the Blue House in Frome – a Grade 1 listed almshouse which has been providing accommodation for the elderly since 1480. 🏡
Meaningful Films was also commissioned to make a series of videos for Get Into Theatre - a charity to help young people find out about all the information and opportunities to pursue a successful career in theatre in the UK. From backstage to performing, training to apprenticeships. We felt lucky to film on the stages at the Bristol Old Vic, Bristol Hippodrome and the Egg Theatre 🎭
2026 promises to be a busy and another meaningful year for us and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our family, friends and supporters for believing in us.
