First time camping… ADHD style. 🫣😂

The camping trip is officially upon us and, if I’m honest, I’m currently somewhere between “I’ve thought of everything” and “why is everything in one giant chaotic pile?”

I went into full hyperfocus mode with this trip.

Visualising.
Planning.
Researching.
Ordering.
Comparing.
Preparing.

Matrix-style. 😂

But now we’re at the final stage where it all needs organising, packing and actually getting into the van… and my brain has basically gone:

“No thank you. We don’t do that bit.” 🤦🏼‍♀️

So my best friend is coming to help me on Thursday, because sometimes teamwork really does make the dream work.

The aim of all this chaos is simple:

To give my children the best summer holiday memories. 🏕️💛

They’re so excited.
I’m so excited.
Also mildly panicking.

Here’s a little tour of the chaos, what we’ve got ready, and the vision I’m hoping it all turns into.

Wish me luck. I may need it. 😂

Sometimes people assume ADHD is just being forgetful or easily distracted.

For me, it’s trying to juggle work, five children, appointments, school, emotions, the house, the endless mental load… all while my brain is running at 100mph.

Some days I absolutely nail it.

Some days I feel like I’m holding everything together with Diet Coke, lists and sheer determination.

I’m not sharing this for sympathy. I’m sharing it because I know there are other parents out there quietly wondering why everything feels just that little bit harder.

You’re not lazy.
You’re not failing.
Your brain just works differently.

And once you understand it, you can start working with it instead of constantly fighting against it. ❤️

Day 33: Ice Tub at My Sister’s 🌅❄️

Problem solved… for today! 😅

With my outside tap still refusing to work, my sister came to the rescue and lent me her garden (and her water supply! 🙌). I loaded the ice tub and all my frozen water bottles into the car, and Delilah and I headed over.

I’m so glad we did. Their garden overlooks the most beautiful sunset, there are animals everywhere, and it’s one of our favourite places to visit. My mum was there too, laughing at me in the background while I climbed into freezing cold water! 😂

My sister and my niece even gave the ice tub a try, and of course Delilah had her own little dips before deciding the paddling pool with her cousin was much more exciting. 💙

I’ve genuinely been craving today’s ice bath, so I’m really proud that I found a way to keep my promise to myself despite the broken tap. One more day of showing up consistently, whatever the circumstances. 💪❄️

Now… I really do need to get that tap fixed! 😂

Day 32 of ice baths until I get to Wim Hof 🧊

Sick bug edition.

Today has been a full clean-up operation.

One very poorly 7-year-old, another child has been sick too, and James is currently okay but due to go on his first ever residential school trip tomorrow — in his last year of primary school.

So I am saying every prayer that disinfectant, fresh bedding, new duvets, washing on the line and full mum-mode might help keep him protected enough to still go.

And no, I’m not doing an ice bath because I think it will magically save me from the sick bug.

I’m doing it because my nervous system needed a reset.

Cold water helps me regulate, calm down, breathe, and come back to myself enough to deal with the chaos as effectively as I can.

Also, I needed to wash my hair and couldn’t face getting into a hot bath or shower after the fresh ice tub reset…

So today I washed my hair in the ice bath.

A first.

Glamorous? No.
Practical? Weirdly, yes.
Day 32 done.
