Out of the Office, into the History of Publishing 📚

Last week, each team had a visit to our local museum which was holding a Noel Carrington exhibition, and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity of seeing it for ourselves. Noel is a huge part of the history of the publishing industry, being the founder of Puffin Books, and he just so happened to have schooled in Bedford where we are based!

This was a great day for the teams to learn about the history of the industry they work in, as well as spending some time with each other outside of the office ✨

With nearly 30 years at EMC between John and René, their dedication is incredible! 🙌

John has been with us since 1998 and pretty much started fresh from university. He plays a huge part in the overall running of the company and is a constant source of knowledge and leadership.

René’s contribution has been just as valuable over the years, bringing consistency, expertise, and a genuine passion for what we do.

Together, they’re a huge part of what makes EMC what it is today, so thank you to both of you! 🌟

✨🎨 ARTIST OF THE MONTH 🎨✨

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Saigon, Vietnam, Duc discovered her love for drawing at an early age—long before modern devices like smartphones and computers were part of daily life. With just a pencil in hand, creativity became her way of exploring the world.

After graduating from high school, Duc pursued her passion at Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, earning a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and illustration. She began her career at a local magazine and has since gained extensive experience working with publishers, bringing to life numerous picture books loved by readers. Constantly practicing and refining her skills, Duc hopes to take on exciting new projects with major publishers worldwide.

When she’s not illustrating, Duc enjoys baking, crafting handmade creations, and spending time with her dogs—faithful companions who bring joy and relaxation after a busy day. If she weren’t an illustrator, she’d happily trade her sketchbook for a baking apron or a career caring for animals. 🐾🍰
