Kala Brand UK – 2025 Highlights 🎉

What a year. Year 1 is officially in the books, and we couldn’t be prouder of what’s been achieved. We absolutely smashed our first year and head into Year 2 more focused, energised, and ambitious than ever!

2025 Highlights:

• Giving Back
Throughout the year, we’ve donated ukuleles to schools, charities, and events across the UK — and this is something we are fully committed to continuing moving forward.

• Kala Artists
We are incredibly fortunate to work with an amazing roster of international Kala artists. That said, one key change we were determined to make was shining a brighter light on the exceptional talent right here on our doorstep. We’ve since welcomed some truly outstanding UK-based artists to our domestic roster, and this is only set to grow further in 2026.

• New Products
I placed a huge amount of pressure on myself to bring the full Kala experience to the UK — mirroring what Kala US offers stateside, right here at home. While the mission isn’t complete (there’s always more to do), what we’ve achieved in just 12 months is nothing short of remarkable. 2026 is already shaping up to be a truly historic year for us.

• Ukies Awards
To cap off the year on an unprecedented high, we were honoured to take home not one, not two, but three Ukies Awards at last night’s Anarchy In The Ukulele: Ukies 2025.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the incredible love and support you’ve shown us throughout 2025. It means more than ever since taking the leap and bringing the distribution of the brand in-house. Of course this wouldn't be made possible without
our AMAZING Kala Dealers, so a special thanks for the work they do throughout the year 👏🏼

We will carry this momentum into 2026, ensuring an even bigger and better year ahead, and that starts with bashing our warehouse wall through into next door and doubling our capacity! 🧱🤛🏼

As the year draws to a close, We just want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone who’s been part of the Kala journey this year.

I'm used to being featured on Page 3 of filthy magazines, but I guess Page 20 will have to do!

And there's plenty of "Filth" in this edition of UKE Magazine n'all, with the likes of our James Hill Signature Concert, our 20th Anniversary Spruce/Sapele being featured.

There's also a delicious advert for our new Revelator Nautilus Horizon models which are due to arrive the first week of January 2026!

Well… we’ve powered through yet another weekend and are finally back up to speed, just in time for what’s traditionally the busiest week of the year. And honestly? Bring it on.

We even managed to steal a couple of hours upstairs in the studio, having a bit of fun and creating something special just for your viewing pleasure.

We truly hope this brings a smile to your faces and helps sprinkle a little extra joy and festive spirit into your day.

“Inspiring Change Through Music"

I returned from this year’s Shrewkfest with so many highlights, but meeting Gary and Hazel Hughes was undoubtedly the absolute pinnacle.

They approached us, wondering if we could help get quality instruments into the hands of young children whose schools have been affected by budget cuts — all through their incredible charity, The Stephen Hughes Foundation.

When I asked about the charity, Gary and Hazel shared that it was established in memory of their son, Stephen Hughes, who tragically passed away in 2014 at just 23 years old due to a rare heart condition called Giant Cell Myocarditis. Since then, they — alongside close friends — have worked tirelessly to honour Stephen’s legacy, creating something truly positive in his name through two things he loved most: sport and music.

Recently, we were able to support their efforts by sending a KA-FMTG for their Christmas raffle, which successfully raised over £1,500 for the Foundation. Here’s Gary with the winner of the raffle, Mr. Allen Hodges, who happens to be a talented ukulele player himself!

Stephen’s legacy continues to inspire real change, and Hazel and Gary’s dedication ensures the Foundation remains a powerful force for good in the community.

Introducing Our New Official Kala Artist: Alex Beds (Ukes With Alex)

We’re incredibly proud to announce Alex as our latest official Kala Artist — a partnership that feels long overdue for someone who has given so much to the ukulele community.

Alex’s musical journey has been anything but ordinary. Many first discovered him through his work with his band Fearne, where his writing, playing, and stage presence helped define the musician he has become today. He later expanded that creativity through The Hummingbird & The Crow, his acoustic-driven duo with SUS colleague Phil, showcasing tight harmonies, thoughtful songwriting, and an undeniable chemistry. Most recently, Alex has continued to evolve with an impressive catalogue of solo material, where his artistry, introspection, and unmistakable musical voice shines brighter than ever.

Its understandable that most of you will recognise Alex as the front man of the world-famous Southern Ukulele Store — a place where his passion, knowledge, and character have helped shape one of the most respected ukulele communities on the planet. He’s a true pillar of the ukulele world, inspiring players at every level and championing the instrument at every opportunity.

Looking ahead, 2026 is already shaping up to be a huge year for Alex. He’s planning to appear at more ukulele festivals across the UK, with major festival slots already booked for 2026 (and one that hasn't even been announced yet 👀). And there's more.......

Alex and the incredible team at SUS are exploring the exciting potential of taking the beloved SUS Friday Jam on the road — bringing that warm, inclusive, and joyous community experience to new audiences nationwide.

On a personal note, this announcement truly means a lot to me.

Alex and I have known each other for almost half our lives, We share very similar passions and seeing his journey align with Kala is both meaningful and incredibly exciting.

The future of the ukulele community looks brighter than ever — and we’re honoured to have Alex leading the charge with us.
