The June 2026 Railway Modeller marks 150 years since the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley, CME of the LNER and creator of some of Britain’s most iconic locomotives. This special issue features an in‑depth look at his life and work, TT:120 scale drawings, and an ambitious OO gauge Doncaster layout plan.

Wensleydale Railway to host May model railway show

The Wensleydale Railway, a heritage line which runs through Wensleydale and Swaledale in North Yorkshire, has announced it will be hosting a model railway show on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May at its Leeming Bar station.

The model railway event will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Tickets for entry to the model railway show cost £6.00 for adults but are free for children aged 3 to 15. Tickets can be bought online or on the day at the show.

Leeming Bar station is located half a mile from A1(M) Junction 51 at satnav postcode DL7 9AR and is also served on Saturdays by bus routes Nos.73 and 53 from Northallerton (including a stop at Northallerton railway station on the East Coast Main Line) to Bedale, and on Sundays only by bus No.856 between Hawes and Northallerton.

The show will feature model railway layouts of various gauges from gauges N to O, and trade and model-making demonstration stands will be in attendance. In addition, hot and cold drinks and light snacks will be on sale in the station’s static buffet coach. Draft and bottled beer will also be on sale on the platform, next to the buffet car. Refreshments will also be available along the line at Leyburn station tearoom.

On the Wensleydale Railway itself a diesel loco-hauled passenger services will be operating between Scruton and Leyburn over the whole weekend, calling at Leeming Bar. For ticket options, which include an all-day ‘Ranger’ ticket for adults priced £25.00, and travel for children aged 3 to 15 travel for only £1.00, visit the railway’s website: https://wensleydale-railway.co.uk
