TWO DAYS OF TRAINS, TRACTIONS AND MORE ON RAMSGATE SEAFRONT

A two day festival celebrating transport – both in miniature and full-sized forms – takes over Ramsgate seafront with the return of Trains & Tractions on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September.

Extended to two days after a successful début last year, Trains & Tractions is being organised once more by Canterbury & District Model Engineering Society and Ramsgate & District Model Engineering Club. It is supported by a grant from Ramsgate Town Council.

Traction engines, joined by classic cars, will be on display around Ramsgate Harbour on Saturday 5 September from 10am. On Sunday 6 September, further along the seafront, miniature ride-on trains will operate beside the Ramsgate Tunnels from 10am to 4pm. Some of the traction engines will also offer rides from here on Sunday.

For those who would prefer not to walk along the seafront, a light railway track will be laid specially for the weekend, running from near the Wetherspoon’s pub up to the tunnels, for a small train to carry passengers.

Guided tours of the tunnels will be available at their usual price. Miniature train rides will cost £1 per person and it’s expected the light railway and traction engine operators will also make a charge.

A free-to-enter model railway exhibition will be held in the tunnels on the Sunday only. Several model railway layouts from other parts of Kent are expected along with a number of specialist traders. The tunnels’ own model railway exhibit will also be on display.

John King retires from the Railway Modeller footplate

Today we bid a fond farewell to our Advertisement & General Manager, John King, who has been a stalwart member of the Peco Publications team since first taking up employment in the role just over 26 years ago – his name first appearing on the RM roster in the September 2000 issue. John will be well known to our many valued advertisers and we are sure that they will join all of us at RM, together with our readers and everyone else at Peco, in wishing him a long and joyful retirement.
