Heading home today, on a coach from Budapest to Vienna to catch our flight back to Edinburgh.

Spent yesterday back in Budapest mostly going round the Christmas Markets and also visiting what they claim to be the most beautiful Cafe in the World the New York Cafe in Budapest. It was a very ornate and glitzy place and only about £10 for for a coffee, bargain.

Our final night on the ship was spent having an excellent meal in the Bistro on the MS William Wordsworth which is part of the Riviera Travel fleet.

Overall, a very comfortable ship, very well finished, lovely decor, very comfortable cabin and the food was superb. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, it never disappointed.

My 1st River Cruise and it is a different experience from an Ocean voyage. Great way to see cities. You arrive right in the centre of most and they have an excursion for you but also time for yourself. Local guides are there for you.

As far as what to do on the ship, it revolves around 2 main areas, the Restaurant and the main Lounge area. Here they host destination discussions and demonstrations etc and, in the evenings, there is entertainment provided, mostly sedate but sufficient to occupy your attention.

Overall it was very enjoyable, different enough from an Ocean Cruise for it to be a very unique experience.

Arrived into Vienna yesterday morning, what a beautiful city. There were so many amazing and historical buildings to see, many linked to its musical past.

Much of the centre of the city is now pedestrianised and so it is safe and easy to move around. Again, at this time of year the Christmas Markets were prominent and had an excellent mix of cultural souvenirs and local food stalls.

Where we docked was only 5 minutes from the centre and so easily accessible.

Back to Budapest for our last day/night and, no doubt, heading to its Christmas Markets.

New Flight Direct from Glasgow to San Sebastian

Folks, I need to tell you about this as San Sebastian in Northern Spain is not just a beautiful city but it is also reknowned as one of the great Foodie places in Europe. And this is not just about high end restaurants, it is packed with the most amazing Pintxos Bars.

These are the Basque version of Tapas only better and very reasonably priced and there are so many of them.

And now, for the 1st time, you can fly direct from Glasgow with British Airways from the 18th of July until 8th September every Saturday and Tuesday and so you can have either a 3 or 4 night break to this amazing place.

I can create a bespoke package for you with the BA flights and one of the lovely hotels that there are in the city.

We were there last year and it was superb and I would be delighted to tell you more about it. You really should give it a try, what a Christmas Present this would make

Last day now with later flight back to Glasgow.

Yesterday we played the "let's get lost in the Souks" game where to want to get from one place to another Mosque that you want to visit, get your Google maps out and then 90 minutes later you give up and sit down for a coffee. And you can see lots of people doing the same thing.

Excellent break and it is a magnificent place with such friendly and welcoming people. Our tours very very good particularly the trek into the mountains.

A small point if you like a glass of wine or two with dinner not easy to find somewhere that serves bevvy and, when you do find one, as an example, you could you could be looking at £10 upwards for a beer.

Easyjet Holidays were very good with the flight and transfer arrangements (hopefully the same later today). Our accommodation the Riad Altier with Abdou and His team could not have been better and would certainly recommend it. There is a very wide ranging choice of accommodations but be liked the relaxed atmosphere of the local Riad.

It is definately the people that make Marrakesh special though, superb.

DAY 2 IN Marrakesh

Well actually in the Atlas Mountains and another superb Tour Guide. We were out for 10 hours, had a ride on.a Camel, stopped at a Berber Village for some breakfast, onto a village at the lower part of the mountains trekked for an hour, stopped for a very nice lunch at the home of one of the tour companies owners, then further trekking to some water falls from where we could see the highest mountain in Northern Africa.

All this for about £35 for the 2 of us, bargain.

We are having a 4 night stay in Marrakesh flying direct from Glasgow and with Easyjet Holidays.

Thought I would share some of the main features so far.

1st, Easyjet Holidays. Really good. Flight was good, lots of service onboard and the experience when we arrived in Marrakesh was excellent. Through passport controls quickly, Easyjet rep waiting and, within 5 minutes we were in our private transfer taxi to get us to our accommodation.

Accommodation is the Riad Altair in the Old City. 6 lovely rooms, good location and excellent team here, can't do enough. Lovely roof terrace with views over the city.

Spend yesterday on 2 tours, a City Tour and then a tour of the Souks (markets) in the Old City, both fascinating and what a fascinating place this is.

Today we are off on a tour into the Atlas Mountains, I will let you know how that goes.

2 points about Marrakesh. The people are so friendly and welcoming, even the guys at Passport Control were all smiley. Marrakesh is quite some place and it feels, and is, very safe. Comfortable to walk round and no hassles.

So far, so good.
