We have just returned from a week in the beautiful country that is Croatia and our 2nd stay in Supetar, a lovely harbour town on the island of Brac.
Getting there is actually a great wee journey itself. We flew from Glasgow to Split, 06:30 on a Sunday morning and arrived in Split less than 3 hours later. From the airport it is a 30 minute transfer to the Ferry Port in Split and then a 50 minute sail to Supetar which the ferry goes into. Then we were picked up for the 5 minute transfer to our accommodation.
We chose to stay at the Villa Midea. It is a small Self Catering place with 7 rooms and is well kept and comfortable. We had a 1 bedroomed apartment with lounge, well equipped kitchen and 2 terraces. It also has a small pool. It is a 10 minute walk from the harbour area and only 5 minutes from a good public beach.
As for Supetar, it is a lovely town particularly in the Harbour area. Plenty of restaurants and bars available and that is why we went self catering as we wanted to enjoy what the town had to offer. It is a beautiful, relaxing place, full of history and lovely cobbled streets. The ferry to Split runs pretty much every hour and so it is easy to go over and spend time in this magnificent city and that we did. Exploring the old town and enjoying the bustling atmosphere in the Riva area full of bars and restaurants where the beautiful people go, we sneaked in unnoticed. No need to hurry back, the last ferry is at midnight, well a minute to Midnight. As there is more than 1 flight a week then a 3 or 4 night city break is possible, it really is well worth a visit in its own but combining with somewhere such as Supetar is well worthwhile.
Brac itself is a lovely island with much to see and enjoy although, as we had been before, we spent most of the time relaxing on the beach and enjoying the bars and restaurants.
Croatia generally is such a beautiful country and very accessible from most UK airports and I would certainly recommend you give it a try.
