Leukaemia

Some of the common signs and symptoms of leukaemia:

* Breathlessness
* Constant coughing
* Paleness in the colour of the skin
* Anaemia (lack of red blood cells)
* Unexplainable tiredness
* Unusual and unexplainable bleeding
* Unusual and unexplainable bruising
* Frequent and/or persistent infections
* Temperatures
* Frequent nosebleeds
* Rashes
* Swelling in the stomach
* Loss of appetite or weight loss

Alot of these symptoms may not appear at the same time and some have ‘normal’ explanations, but if you feel that it is something more keeping pushing for referral and more tests to be done

Childhood Cancer Month

They say childhood cancer is rare and yes it is (but maybe not as rare as it used to be) we all go about our daily lives with our families not knowing some of the common signs or symptoms, until they are really sick and are requiring urgent medical care.

So as a collective I think it’s important that we are aware of the most common ones, and we don’t stop asking questions and pushing for better answers for our children and family members. Even if it means constant GP visits, A&E visits, more scans/tests.

There are many forms of cancer and then underneath that sub-groups and then stage levels - it’s not just black and white… with each of these different levels, different treatments are needed and none of which are kind or easy on the body.

Childhood Cancer Month 🎗️

September is marked as childhood cancer awareness month and during this time we have changed Grace’s logo to signify every family that is going or has gone through a diagnosis.

We will be doing a series of posts on some of the signs and symptoms for all parents and care-givers to use as a reference guide to help with early detection.

We honestly don’t know how to start to show our appreciation for today, completely blown away by the generosity and support for the charity that Grace started. Apologies to anyone who we didn’t get speaking to with it being busy.

The countdown is well and truly on! ☕️ 🎂 🧁

Next Sunday is our first event! Come along and treat yourself! Tea, coffee and a wide range of treats will be available! We will have a kids section also with a few activities and games to keep them occupied while you’re treating yourself!

All funds raised are going to help us support Children and families going through childhood cancer.

Hallie is an amazing young girl who we had the pleasure of meeting on the ward with Grace.
