We just recently celebrated our 7 year anniversary here at Family Tree Radio. A rather desperate trawl of the internet tells us "The 7th anniversary is traditionally celebrated with gifts of copper or wool. Copper symbolizes strength, beauty, and durability, while wool represents warmth, comfort, and the ability to weather life's changes together". This week sees Matt D***s in the DJ booth once again, and whilst he is neither strong nor beautiful, he's certainly warm (if rather a little sweaty), comforting and has weathered more life changes than most! "Strength, Beauty and Durability" seems to sum up our weekly output perfectly and will be on the Family Tree Family Crest from now on. Here's to another 7 years!

What can we tell you about this week’s special guest Joe Madden? Well, not a lot because Luke forgot to ask for a bio so we’re just going to have to wing it this week (this week?-Ed)

Joe was found wandering as a small boy by a family of goat herders just outside the Bavarian village of Weltenberg who took him in to raise as one of their own. Rapidly realising goat life wasn’t for him Joe quickly left to make the journey to the bright lights of Manchester City. He soon learnt the skills to become an acclaimed writer, wit and bon viveur which in turn opened doors to his ultimate calling in life as a music critic, champion angler and all round good egg.

Joe very kindly swung by the studio earlier this week to hand craft 2 hours of audio shenanigans for our discerning delectations featuring leftfield gems, outré tracks and generally genre defying music. So expect the unexpected, don’t expect the er…expected and come with an open mind!

Disclaimer: Not everything stated above is necessarily rooted in the truth.

Yes, it's that time again. People camping out overnight and queueing round the block in anticipation, but not for the chance to pay £3 for a bowl of strawberries and cream (talk about a tennis racket) but instead to get an early listen to Tony Regan's new show. Unlike Wimbledon though, our Scottish super star hasn't retired and brings us his predominantly bassline game, smashing aces throughout. Like those other inhabitants of SW19, Tony's set is certainly underground but the lad isn't adverse to a bit of overground (lobbing in Neil Young and Grace Jones in an eclectic mix). As for Wombling, well who can say? but unlike those overpriced strawberries, Family Tree Radio is absolutely free!

Today is the 9th anniversary of the Brexit referendum which saw a slim majority here vote to isolate the UK from our European cousins. We all really know the notion of sovereignty was not a good enough excuse for Brits to cut off our own nose and we certainly know how this panned out for the UK!

It is also the 77th anniversary of Windrush day which serves as a fine example of the benefits of human integration and the the source of so much music, art and culture that impacts everything FT stands for today. Without the influence of a diaspora of people from around the world living in the UK would be so bland it'd be like permanently floating in boiled cabbage soup.

So with this in mind we ask Phil D***s to take us on a musical tour to celebrate this melting pot of creativity and the people that make London one of the greatest cities in the world!!

The great Sly Stone once said "its not the teaching, it's the learning" - an ethos we strongly adhere to hear it at FT. Don't get me wrong, as with any other group of deejays, we have our share of insufferable geeks more than happy to share their knowledge at any opportunity. But its the learning that counts most.

Cos you can't be a teacher, without being a learner. Like you can't be a deejay, unless you're a dancer.

This week, we have Matt Hanlon, not exactly a stranger to the pedagogic world - schooling us all with another journey through the crates. Now, if I could just learn not to go out raving on a Sunday night, I'm sure this blurb and everything in my world would be in a better place right now.

Anyway, more to the point, RIP Sly Stone.

It's been a week of fallings out since our last outing. Trump and Musk, Big Ange and Spurs, and Will with his recording software. But after two failed attempts and more time than he'd like on the Audacity forums Will finally got his show in the can. Phew.

Was it worth it? Well, if you like balearic oddities, wonky disco, trippy dubs and razor sharp edits we think you'll be glad he went the extra mile. Hell, there's even a tropical cover of Voodoo Ray for you to argue over in the comments.

After a weekend of musical excursions from Gideön's EP launch party at Phonica to the latest Idjut Boys Bite the Day affair (with Carl Craig and Faith sandwiched in between) its fair to say this Monday is on a go slow.

The annual Faith Boat Party was as always, an assembly of London's finest rogues and wronguns and a great day as ever. So great in fact it made someone dive off the top deck (nil points). In 25 odd years of promoting and attending boat parties I've never seen that happen before! Anyway no drama, he swam ashore and probably just has to deal with a severe dose of dysentery and cholera over the next few months.

Talking of people going overboard (or rather someone who can never be accused of that) here is our very own Juan Solo bringing us vibes to make your Monday more buoyant!

Well what a dramatic week of football we've had here at Family Tree. We're all emotionally exhausted.

From the heartbreak of the O's play off defeat to the not giving a f**kedness at City's FA cup final shambles and then the elation of Aberdeen lifting a trophy again at long last (right Davy? Sorry Tone).

Above all though, it was great to see North London's finest covering themselves in European glory. Yes, Arsenal women seeing off Barcelona for their Champions League triumph was a magical thing to behold. We're all chuffed for them.

Oh and apparently Spurs won something too. Hey ho.

Meanwhile, here's Matt D***s with a brilliant show full of aceness. Enjoy.

Did you know that on this day in 1536, Anne Boleyn had her head chopped off after falling out with Henry the VIII. No fear of any heads rolling round here though, and in fact our very own head of FT Towers, Luke Crowley, is known to get on very well with the odd Henry the VIII now and then! Once he hits play on those 1210s, you'll be headed straight to the nearest speakers as he drops a wonderful tribute to the great Cocoa Tea, in amongst a much needed lengthy Reggae selection, which we've been missing on FT since the heady days of Bronco Fly. This being The Sanctuary though, you can rest assured Luke picks up the tempo with his usual choice cuts of HOUSE from New York, London And Berlin (Ed: scraping the pun barrel now).

It's become apparent over the last week or so that Family Tree Radio and the Vatican share a few similarities in terms of processes and traditions.

Firstly there is a major shortage of women in both groups and all committee rulings seem to be made by a bunch of out of touch old blokes removed from reality. Another striking similarity is Matt's love of going out dancing in his little red slippers from Valentino! But most miraculous is the fact that all major FT decisions are made under a large plume of white (ish) smoke after days and days of procrastination.
All this rather conveniently leads us to FTs favourite Catholic son Tony 'Choir Boy' Reegz who has spent the last week holed up at home trying to select the best records available to him all while sitting in the 'perforated' chair and having his ge****ls inspected for falsehoods.

You will be pleased (and yet not surprised) to hear Tony passed with flying colours on all fronts!

Hope y’all enjoyed the beautiful bank holiday weather everyone. Feel those May day vibes – that’s Baltic not Balearic. We at Famz Tree certainly enjoyed ourselves, celebrating Luke and Matt’s birthday weekend hauling our ageing dad bods through a 6 hour cardio workout in a sauna. But that’s Try Outs for ya!

The revelry has nothing to do with our inability to put a show out until Tuesday afternoon this week, of course. That’s just good old-fashion ineptitude.

But its been worth the wait, as we have another banger from one of our fave guests, Davy Brown. Once again he’s crafted a beatiful and evocative show that will elevate us all. And with crypto-fascists taking over everywhere from Washington DC to Washington, County Durham – we couldn’t need this more.
