20 years of building futures 👷🏽‍♀️👷🏻

This year marks a huge milestone for ACE Training as they celebrate 20 years of helping young people across Oxfordshire develop practical skills, confidence and experience for careers in construction.

Founded in 2006, ACE Training has supported thousands of learners and apprentices, while working closely with local schools, employers and families to help bridge the region’s growing skills gap.

From workshops that become classrooms to tutors who become mentors, their work goes far beyond qualifications, helping young people see themselves as capable and valuable future professionals.

Swim, Perform, Thrive 🏊🏼‍♂️

This month’s Community Sports feature in Your Villages takes a closer look at Bicester Blue Fins Swimming Club and the people who make it so much more than somewhere to swim.

From its roots in the 1950s to the thriving, multi-generational club it is today, we explore the coaching, squads and competitions, as well as the volunteers working behind the scenes and the friendships and sense of community that have developed along the way.

Whether swimming for enjoyment, building confidence or competing at county, regional, national or even international level, there’s a place for swimmers of all ages and abilities.

From Bicester to Michigan ✈️🇺🇸

This month’s Bicester Overseas takes us across the Atlantic with sisters Kyla and Elyse Caton, who grew up in Bicester and are now both studying at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

They share memories of growing up in Kings Meadow, favourite Bicester spots, the places they still return to when they’re home, and what life is like studying more than 3,000 miles away.

Despite settling into life in Michigan, Bicester is never far from their minds, with family, friends and plenty of familiar places bringing them back during university breaks.

Could your village benefit from some of 22,000 FREE daffodil bulbs? 🌼

This month’s gardening feature from Bunkers Hill Garden Shop is packed with seasonal advice, from helping gardens recover after the hot summer to preparing now for a colourful spring.

Mr Lean is also launching his “Dancing Daffodils, Wonderful World” project, giving away an incredible 22,000 daffodil bulbs for communities to plant this November, with the aim of bringing a little more colour to villages and urban areas while supporting mental wellbeing.

There are also 22 big bags of British potatoes up for grabs for participating communities to enjoy after a busy day planting 1,000 bulbs!

More than just football… ⚽️

With more than 500 players across 40+ teams, Bicester Park Football Club has become one of Oxfordshire’s largest grassroots clubs, but its impact reaches far beyond what happens on the pitch.

From first kicks at five years old through to senior football, the club is creating a place where players can build confidence, make friendships and feel part of something. With girls’ football continuing to grow, inclusive sessions, youth development programmes and opportunities to volunteer and lead, there really is a pathway for everyone.

39 years of creativity in Bicester! 🖼️

Founded in 1987 by just three members, Bicester Art Club has grown into a welcoming community for local artists to meet, create, learn and share their work.

From weekly sessions and demonstrations to outings, exhibitions and summer painting sessions, the club has plenty going on throughout the year – and with its 40th anniversary coming up in 2027, there are already plans for some special celebrations.

New members are always welcome, whether you’re an experienced artist or simply fancy giving something creative a try.
