ABOUT SONG
Reflecting on the song, John shares:
This song began as a quiet meditation on the fragility of relationships — a reflection on how, when bonds become strained, the sudden disappearance of a partner might leave the other unsure whether they’ve been abandoned or if something more tragic has occurred. It was a compelling idea to explore in song.
In the wake of Nicola Bulley’s heartbreaking disappearance and the devastating news of her passing near the River Wyre, the song has taken on a deeper emotional resonance. Though it was written before that tragedy, performing it now carries an added poignancy I hadn’t anticipated.
With beautifully understated fiddle contributions from Mickey Kenney. The talents of Chris Howard, Pippa Murdie and Jon Lawton also featured, this track has become one of my personal favourites from the Restless Hearts album. I’ve been especially moved to see it recently covered by two independent artists — a gesture that means a great deal.
🎧 Why Pre-Saving Your Favourite Artist’s Music Matters More Than You Think
In the age of streaming, supporting your favourite artist is easier—and more powerful—than ever. One simple click can make a world of difference. Enter the pre-save.
When you pre-save a song or album on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, or Deezer, you’re doing more than just reserving a spot in your playlist. You’re sending a signal to the platform’s algorithm that this release matters. That signal helps boost the track’s visibility, increasing the chances it’ll land on curated playlists and reach new ears.
But it’s not just about algorithms. For independent and emerging artists, every pre-save is a vote of confidence. It shows real anticipation and helps build momentum before the music even drops. Think of it as cheering from the front row before the curtain rises.
So next time your favourite artist announces a new release, don’t just like the post—pre-save it. It’s free, it’s fast, and it fuels the music you love.
Because when you pre-save, you’re not just a fan. You’re part of the launch team.
