A big thank you to Keith Hargreaves of AUK for playing my song 'The Disappearance' in this weeks show alongside My Girl The River a favourite of mine. Great show by the way - enjoyed all 8 podcasts so far.

Kris Wilkinson Hughes joins Keith to talk about new songs and new albums for the beat combo that is My Girl The River. There are also tracks from Wednesdayoff, The Sheepdogs, Jeffrey Martin, John Jenkins, AVVTT/PTTN and a chance to reflect on the awful news concerning Todd Snider

A Big favour please - I’m releasing this track as my 3rd single from the 'Restless Hearts' album on 7th Dec 2025, Can you please pre-save on your favourite music platform

ABOUT SONG
Reflecting on the song, John shares:
This song began as a quiet meditation on the fragility of relationships — a reflection on how, when bonds become strained, the sudden disappearance of a partner might leave the other unsure whether they’ve been abandoned or if something more tragic has occurred. It was a compelling idea to explore in song.
In the wake of Nicola Bulley’s heartbreaking disappearance and the devastating news of her passing near the River Wyre, the song has taken on a deeper emotional resonance. Though it was written before that tragedy, performing it now carries an added poignancy I hadn’t anticipated.
With beautifully understated fiddle contributions from Mickey Kenney. The talents of Chris Howard, Pippa Murdie and Jon Lawton also featured, this track has become one of my personal favourites from the Restless Hearts album. I’ve been especially moved to see it recently covered by two independent artists — a gesture that means a great deal.

🎧 Why Pre-Saving Your Favourite Artist’s Music Matters More Than You Think

In the age of streaming, supporting your favourite artist is easier—and more powerful—than ever. One simple click can make a world of difference. Enter the pre-save.
When you pre-save a song or album on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, or Deezer, you’re doing more than just reserving a spot in your playlist. You’re sending a signal to the platform’s algorithm that this release matters. That signal helps boost the track’s visibility, increasing the chances it’ll land on curated playlists and reach new ears.
But it’s not just about algorithms. For independent and emerging artists, every pre-save is a vote of confidence. It shows real anticipation and helps build momentum before the music even drops. Think of it as cheering from the front row before the curtain rises.
So next time your favourite artist announces a new release, don’t just like the post—pre-save it. It’s free, it’s fast, and it fuels the music you love.
Because when you pre-save, you’re not just a fan. You’re part of the launch team.

Americana UK Review of 'Too Many Roads' Album November 13th 2025

“The experiment works… all the reworkings are worthy of a listen.”
“An interesting conceit… a starker listen, with many of the songs stripped back.”

Staying local, in fact, rooting around AUK’s spiritual home of Liverpool, we have an album which is a bit of an oddity and a salute to a Liverpool songwriter. John Jenkins released his latest album, “Restless Hearts”, a few months ago, getting an 8/10 review from us. “Too Many Roads” is basically “Restless Hearts” reimagined and is delivered by 12 acts who each cover a song from the original album. A bold move, really, tempting hubris, tempered perhaps by Jenkins offering the album as a free download. Anyhow, the experiment works, and while the reworkings in themselves are all worthy of a listen, it’s instructive to listen to them in tandem with the original album. It’s a starker listen, with many of the songs stripped back: the best example being Robyn Gair’s delivery of ‘Too Many Roads’ while Will Riding adds some gravitas and doom to ‘Sound Of Thunder’. An interesting conceit.

Looking for something uplifting to do mid-day tomorrow?
Why not drop by The Sea Shanty Café in New Brighton — it’s right by the station and full of character.
Pippa and I will be performing a full hour of music, featuring songs from my recently acclaimed albums Tuebrook and Restless Hearts, a few handpicked cover versions, and some of Pippa’s beautiful original songs too.
It’s free to attend, the coffee’s good, and the welcome even better — so if you fancy a bit of live music to brighten your day, we’d love to see you there.
Thanks as always for your support — it means the world.
Warm wishes,
John
