THE SOCIAL ARCHITECTURE OF THE WORLD
2. Soul Searchers (Middle Dwellers)
The soul searchers are those who understand what Watchman Nee calls the latent power of the soul and conscientiously engage and harness it to make the most of it. These folks understand that there is something higher than brain power – the power of the soul. The power of the soul is like dry wood that needs to be set ablaze; it is like cold water that must be boiled to make tea – you need to constantly engage this power to get the best out of it.
Consequently, those who engage the soul’s latent power practice all sorts of techniques ranging from transcendental meditation, to astral travel (projection), to taking of hard drugs and stimulants in order to search out and utilise the power hidden in the soul’s core.
The core power of the soul is imagination. This power is so great that God Himself said whatever it grasps can physically manifest. Whatever man imagines can be converted to something tangible (Genesis 11:6).
The soul searchers explore, excavate and fully exploit self. Most eastern, new age religions and indeed philosophical groups in the world belong in this category.
Much of art, entertainment and popular culture are driven by folks in this category. They are intermediaries between the brainstormers and spiritstormers. They are not too shallow to belong with the brainstormers but not too deep to belong with the spiritstormers. Hence, they are middle dwellers. While the brain’s power is somewhat measurable, the soul’s latent power – with imagination at its core cannot be measured, no, not by any human parameter or metric. So we can comparatively state that: the brain can be likened to a river, the soul can be compared to a sea, while the spirit can be likened to an ocean.
