July 9, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: WINGER II: In The Heart Of The Young.

Higher and higher.

After their critically acclaimed 1988's Winger debut-LP, their second Act shall dig deeper. With a iron-clad pedigree and exquisite performance, WINGER shall not only make the competition deal with the Devil, but reach again the RIAA-certified Platinum plateau.

Five-star sleaze attacks as "Can't Get Enuff" and "Easy Come, Easy Go" sets the pace to hot 'n h***y. More solid rock oozes progressive beats on "Baptized By Fire" and the cool caught between Heaven & Hell "You Are The Saint, I Am The Sinner".

The ravaging riffraff of "Loosen Up" keeps amps on overdrive-mode while the piano-led tearful "Miles Away", is the perfect message in a bottle for that special-someone.

WINGER is a serious unit, above the Sunset Strip hype and proudly musically drives in a lane of their own. Beau Hill produced again, this would be one of the last diamonds from the late 80s rebel-rock cornucopia. On tour in North America with KISS and SLAUGHTER, asses were properly kicked, I know, I was there.

WINGER shall get more serious with 1993's Pull CD ...in a very, very, very different music-landscape.

July 3, 1985 - 2025: 40 years of: Back To The Future.

When then becomes now.

In the wackiest string of movie-flicks, from E.T. to Footloose to Ghostbusters, one special / spacial adventure shall takes us back, way back.

"HEY McFLY !"

After a serious bump on the head, Doctor Brown would create a time-machine ...out of a DeLorean sports car. Showing his new device to Marty, the latter would inadvertently become the world's first human time-traveler. Transported back in 1955, Marty tries to keep his calm, hunts down a 30 years younger Doc, tries to return to 1985 ...but unwillingly runs into his parents.

A fun story of love, adventure and a little bit of sci-fi, made Back To The Future not only 1985's top box-office draw, but also launched one of the hippest action-packed 80s trilogy. After NBC's talking car in Knight Rider, people now swarmed their local dealership asking for plutonium-powered DeLorean time-machines.

"WHAT DID I TELL YA !!! ...88 MILES PER HOUR !!!"

Now part of 80's lexicon, Back To Future is forever synonymous with: America's Golden Age, DMC Delorean cars, flux capacitor, Johnny B. Goode, skateboard, gigawatts ...and Edward Van Halen. Huey Lewis's muscular collaboration with the kick-ass track "The Power Of Love", also inject poprock cool into the hot mix. Another 80s staple.

The next voyage shall literally go forward into the future, on 1989's Back To The Future II.

"GREAT SCOTT !"'

July 3, 2000 - 2025: 25 years of: Blood Of Tyrants.

More Canuck firepower.

Hitting hard again, after 1997's The Dark Command CD, the glorious return from the dormant metal-machine is rolling at full steam. In a tide-changing new millennium, real heavy-powermetal is once again provided by the glorious might of Exciter.

"RIIIIIISE UP !!!"

Cacophonous speed rips the scene in half, as the invasion commence. "Metal Crusaders" ravages all in sight, as they "Rule With An Iron Fist". Brutal and menacing, these "Weapons Of Mass Destruction" are a real maelstrom of vicious muscular metal.

The red wine pours aplenty during the massive killings on the title-track for "Blood Of Tyrants", while hordes of merciless "Predator"s applies the heavymetal "Martial Law".

Kill after kill, the dedicated EXCITER stood proud in face of the current trends. Revisiting their historical past, the band would release 2004's New Testament CD, the final Ricci + Bélanger collaboration ...for now.

July 2, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: Flesh & Blood.

Everybody's favorite poison.

Four poor bluesed boys ruling the Sunset Strip. After 1988's lewd and rude content of Open Up And Say …Ahh ! LP …these rebels where bound for world-domination.

Bret, Rikki, Bobby and C.C. are collectively hated by boyfriends / brothers / dads and uncles America-wide. Harley runnin', stripper-bangin' and hard-rocknrollin' is their motto. And now in skin-deep round #3, more asses were about to get kicked by the explosive Poison.

The party starts strong with the opener "Valley Of Lost Souls", where not an inch is spared, while the mature title-track "Flesh & Blood (Sacrifice)" kicks-back with a heavy-riff. The personal gentle ballad "Something To Believe In" is pure bottled tears and follows a great track-record of iconic MTV-powerballads. More hardrocknroll is displayed on "Don't Give Up An Inch" and "Ball And Chain" were the boys shows-us more meat to their bone.

Now the candy-ass "Unskinny Bop" is by no means a musical tour-de-force, but when you wanna unwine and boogie, just press Play. Sleazy lyrics from a sleazy band led by a sleazy frontmen. "Bop" did leave a mark in the hardrock history-books, just like some of their previous works including "Talk Dirty To Me" and "Look But You Can't Touch".

"Well are we gonna dance or are we gonna play ?"

POISON: integral part of great American 80s hardrock, from A-to-W, from AEROSMITH to WINGER, the clock never stopped and most of the scandals you've heard are true. Being in a 1990 arena filled with screaming young ladies, is one hot rocknroll feeling that any fans should experience, as it epitomize the adolescent-attitude and forever-freedom we all cling for ...I felt it, I was there. 1991's Swallow This Live double-CD displays the road-rage rampage, though at release-time, C.C. DeVille was already out of the band following a string of events and inner band tensions.

RIAA-certified 3x Platinum after a decadent decade of deadly decibels, fan-fatigue and scene migration, hardrock was sat on a different path, courtesy of the Seattle-movement of Autumn 91. A new era in rock, a new axeman, a new flair, a new poison: 1993's Native Tongue CD.

01/07/2025

July 1, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: Harmony Corruption.

A new era in grind.

The fastest band on the planet gets a full facelift. After the 1988 nailbomb-type From Enslavement To Obliteration LP, West-Midlands's grindcore-alchemist goes thru a major rebuild.

Still behind the kit, the human drum-tornado Mick Harris and still in the low-end department Shane Embury. Exit screamer Lee Dorrian to form the divine CATHEDRAL and welcome aboard fellow Brummie and ex-BENEDICTION death-doom growler Mark "Barney" Greenway. Exit guitar-player Bill Steer to rot full-time in CARCASS and welcome aboard not one but two American six-stringers: Las Vegas's RIGHTEOUS PIGS Mitch Harris and Los Angeles's TERRORIZER own Jesse Pintado.

Na**lm Death in 1990, the first grindcore all-star juggernaut.

The opening-track "Vision Conquest" instantly blast away while Barney shouts an apocalyptic death-grunt. The CD-only "Hiding Behind" shows a mature band, with articulate writing and some heavymetal song-structure. The CELTIC FROST-worship "If The Truth Be Known", with it's main driving riff is a simple yet menacing track and they happily destroys everything in sight with the explosive firepower of "Inner Incineration".

Sll-star guests: DEICIDE's Glen Benton and OBITUARY's John Tardy both makes an appearance on the dire global-warning "Unfit Earth". Not a single per say, but the now fan-favorite "Suffer The Children" is a strong contender. The mega-metal riffing, builds-up to the climatic grindcore blasts. The strategically placed "Ugh" and "Heyyy" sends another salute to the great Tom Warrior during the outro-section.

Produced by Scott Burns at Tampa's Morrisound Studios, the winning formula is now applied to the leading grindcore titans. The result ? ...a fat mix, bridging the grindcore minuteman-touch to the fuller deathmetal tones. Harmony Corruption CD as a slicker production, actual verse-chorus-verse song patterns and even guitar-solo mid-sections. All elements most acts take for granted, but were never part of ND's DNA, yet.

1990: a turning-point in time for hard-music, were deathmetal kids were ruling the underground.

The Live Corruption VHS was filmed in a Church's basement in Salisbury UK, were stage-diving quickly became mandatory. Their 1991's Mass Appeal Madness MCD is a return to form to their edgier grind-roots, as they then finally properly toured America, to new extreme-music hungry crowds.

NA**LM DEATH shall hyperblast against, in fertile 1992, on their major-label North America distributed Utopia Banished CD.

June 28, 1985 - 2025: 40 years of: Fly On The Wall.

Maximum overdrive.

Still hot rockin' from 1983's Flick Of The Switch LP ...the almighty Godzilla shall make some minor changes. Now on drums, Simon Wright and also sporting a more party-arenarock vibe, the mid 80s gets electrified with some more AC/DC.

We get a full view, like a "Fly On The Wall". From loud to louder, the rhythm shall "Shake Your Foundations" with crisp "First Blood". Rolling down the highway to Hell, the band is "Back In Business" with lethal riffraff. Both cocky-cool "Sink The Pink" and "Playing With Girls" are sure to make air-guitar ...a National Olympic discipline.

The band would also provide the slick track "Who Made Who" for 1986's Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive. More polished, yet still a crunch-filled cut that supported the RPM-filled motor-flick.

Covered in oil and RIAA-certified Platinum, keeping their esteem in face of the current hardrock and thrashmetal young guns, AC/DC would crack more skulls with 1988's Blow Up Your Video LP.

June 26, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: Lights… Camera… Revolution.

Welcome to the Church Of Su_c_dal.

1990: key offerings from the hard-hitting hardrock scene as well as some of the finest thrash monoliths and most of deathmetal's greats were released in that single calendar-year. In a parallel world, a new school was infecting the scene with grooves and sick vibes, acts like LIVING COLOUR, WARRIOR SOUL and Venice's: Suicidal Tendencies !

Los Angeles's own banned-band from the undergrounds, proudly joined the army with no intent to laugh or smile ...and it was now time for the cyco preacher Mike Muir to shout out loud:

"What the hell's going on 'round here ?"

It's a mo*********ng revolution, a blunt statement delivered straight outta the gutters. "You Can't Bring Me Down" is the fire and fury of thrash, high-paced vocals and with the breakdown preach-part. In one simple track, S.T. resets the bar for the surrounding competition. Nineties-metal is here home-boy.

The heavy thumping laidback "Lost Again" and "Give It Revolution" are fine cuts but the real magic comes into play with the adorable "Lovely". RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS on high-gain crunch, total left-field from a band that sent us into a trip at the brain just a mere two years ago. Traces of punkcore are felt on the speedmetal burst of "Disco's Out, Murder's In". The CD closes with a mosh-monster in "Go'n Breakdown" featuring more tight fret-work by both Clark and George's right-hand palm-muting.
..and now, one of the coolest songs ever: 3 - 2 - 1 - ACTION !

TV-preachers of the 80s are exposed and uncensored in this full 3:24sec urban-metal celebration. "Send Me Your Money" is an all free-style hard-music fusion. From thrash rhythm, to some of Trujillo's funkiest bass-licks, to a saxophone appearance and to Muir's humoristic / realistic raps ...this is the boiling-point for fun to funk to fu**ed. In 1988 Ozzy wrote '"Miracle Man" and now SU_C_DAL goes all the way. The truth is out there, remember kids that: "His only God is the almighty dollar, He ain't no prophet, He ain't no healer, He's just a two bit goddamn money stealer."

"AMEN !"

Now 35 years strong and RIAA-certified Gold, Lights... Camera... Revolution is a landmark album for the evolution of metal, after a half-decade of generic cockrock and speed-only minded freaks.

V13 related or not, these gangstas did crossover from hardcore to thrashmetal. The ultimate hybrid: street-smart thrash-mosh with hiphop esthetics and DIY punk roots. What ANTHRAX started, SU_C_DAL TENDENCIES perfected. 90s band like BIOHAZARD, BODY COUNT, LIFE OF AGONY and eventually LIMP BIZKIT wouldn't have a gig it wasn't for S.T. trailblazing the way.

The SU_C_DAL boys shall add more killer tones on 1992's The Art Of Rebellion CD ...send them your money !

June 26, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: Danzig II: Lucifuge.

A dark deity.

The dim clouds thickens after 1988's Danzig LP. Heading deeper south of Heaven, 1990 would now be cast under the forever spell of Lucifuge.

Rolling down the highway, we are all coming from a "Long Way Back From Hell", a fast-paced rebel-rock appearance. More rough attitude appears on "Snakes Of Christ" and the divine calling of "Devil's Plaything". Diametrically, the bayou acoustic-folk of "I'm The One", is a full blown midnight meeting at the crossroad.

Doomrock, a usual trick from this band, cracks the silence, as both "Killer Wolf" and "Pain In The World", delivers properly performed BLACK SABBATH moods. The center-piece remains the hammering riff-crushing of "Her Black Wings". From pounding-metal, to baritone-chanted chorus, the possession is at it's peak potential. A signature for the band and a perfect balance in dark heavyrock.

On this wicked night, aside from the heat and current trends, providing southernrock-metal to an ever changing landscape ...DANZIG rules in a league of their own. The bringers of death shall conclude their perfect trilogy with 1992's DANZIG III: How The Gods Kill CD.

June 26, 2000 - 2025: 25 years of: Physicist.

Immaculate metal.

Biomech-metal: an endless source of pure energy. Following 1998's Infinity CD, Canada's most hyperactive man shall up the game. Extreme and unorthodox, a new era is brewing ...say his name: Devin Townsend.

Raw and relentless, "Namaste" and "Victim" sets the pace for modern hard 'n heavy. High-velocity brute force explode on both "Death" and "Devoid". Out of this world posh-metal is produced on "Jupiter" and through the powerslave of "Irish Maiden". A new staple is hatched upon metal's "Kingdom" ...a cool exhibition of magic "Material", a serious twist into melodies.

Pristine perfection.

Heavy as really heavy things gets, those to blame are: Townsend, Stroud, Simon and Hoglan ...talk about a bunch of strapping young lads. Bending music to it's knee, Devin Townsend shall provide more extensive soundscapes with 2001's Terria CD.

June 25, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: Deicide.

Ministers of death, praying for war.

From AMON to fully possessed ...Florida now walks beyond The Gates. Imminent competition to the unholy Fathers of MORBID ANGEL, Tampa now presents their other bastard children: Deicide.

The blasphemy starts, as soon as the "Lunatic Of God's Creation" gathers for a sacred rite. Between the "Crucifixation" and the self divine "Sacrificial Su_c_de", a from beyond power is felt. In Hell they burn.

Merciful and "Oblivious To Evil", the forever oath in sealed in blood, as the title-track for "Deicide" hits on the nails, harder and harder. Jonestown finally gets an anthem, as "Carnage In The Temple Of The Damned" calls all followers into the abyss. Passing through death's door, the deathmetal scene ends up "Dead By Dawn".

It's 1990.
The carnage is real.
This is Satanic Death-Metal.
"I rule this world."

Brothers in arms, pushing the boundaries of extremes, DEICIDE rapidly placed themselves at the forefront of this sick race. Bold, brutal and bloody, the clan would dominate the early 90s, with wickedness and controversies.

In 1992, the band would cement their superiority by providing Hell on Earth: a grand declaration of war ...a call to their Legion.

June 21, 1985 - 2025: 40 years of: Theatre Of Pain.

Act III.

From satanic gutter-punks to glamourlicious centerfolds, the world's most dangerous hardrock-band were on the verge of superstardom. Terrorizing America and ruling The Strip since good ol' 1981, the Theatre Of Pain LP would finally officiallize American sleazerock ...and officiallize a new colorful chapter in Mötley Crüe.

The "Louder Than Hell" "City Boy Blues" assaults Tinseltown. Metal-crunch with heavy hooks, this is instant crüde power. Arenarock anthems in both "Fight For Your Rights" and the rich "Keep Your Eye On The Money", all kick major asses.

Pounding more concrete, as "Tonight (We Need A Lover)" provide xtra octane, while the band teases with the fast-metal of "Use It Or Lose It". BROWNSVILLE STATION's fuming hot "Smokin' In The Boys Room" receives the overdrive treatment, as the lovely point of no return is reached, in the heavenly powerballad: "Home Sweet Home" ...a piano-epic not written by QUEEN.

After the Us Festival, the Shout At the Devil LP and the associated Ozzy Osbourne tour, MÖTLEY CRÜE was on top of badassery. A full 90° rebuild: from black to pink, from dark to lite, from Pentagram to lipstick, these Saints of Los Angeles elevated the scene into the mainstream limelight. MTV was now fully embracing hardrock, from West-Hollywood to West Germany ...the gates of glam are now wide open.

RIAA-certified 4x Platinum, with no stop-signs ahead, the band would unwillingly become poster-boys for the mid 80s, this is the springboard of California hardrock: Glam-Rock.

In dangerously glorious 1987, through the steam, the chaos and the overdoses, from rock candy to bikers, all of Sunset Strip's shiny neon reads: Girls, Girls, Girls.

RIP Razzel (1960-1984)

June 21, 1990 - 2025: 35 years of: Impact Is Imminent.

Thrashmetal's dogma.

After 1989's moshpit-fest Fabulous Disaster LP, the tone shall get deadlier. During a hinge period in heavymetal's timeline, where thrashmetal's dominance was at it's commercial-peak, another sonic disaster shall be supplied by the ultimate Exodus.

We all hit the wall instantly, as this "Impact Is Imminent". Brutal riffing, high stamina and sick vocal assault, without ending "A.W.O.L.", as the scene ends-up in "The Lunatic Parade". The perfect thrash-trio, some of the most serious thrashmetal available under the Sun.

The riffology continues as the speedmetal-ravage of "Thrash Under Pressure" while "Objection Overruled" tops The Bay with pride, passion and power. The chemi-kill is real. Massive metal built-up is exposed on "Within The Walls Of Chaos" and "Heads They Win (Tails You Loose)". Both tracks lays the groundwork for future EXO Inc creations. Lovely San Francisco craftsmanship in your stereo.

"It's all Perry Mason's fault !"

Now inked to major-label Capitol Records, the stakes were sky high. Unbeknown to all of us, Impact Is Imminent CD would be one of the last classic thrash-gems. In Summer 1991, little did we knew, the entire thrashmetal genre would be thrown under the bus by METALLICA ...and soon after by some Seattle bums.

EXODUS shall tweak the formula, add some groove and strike the beast again on 1992's Force Of Habit CD.
