Are you planning to scale your start-up?
➡️This is a huge step in moving your way to seeing real growth in your idea and company. We work with scale-ups on a daily basis and if there’s one thing we understand…it’s the headaches that come with the scaling process.
➡️It’s going to feel overwhelming - this is normal.
Ensuring you have a proactive, dynamic and versatile team is going to really take off some of the pressure…the best part of scaling is that you have more hands on deck.
➡️You will need to grow your team and retrain current staff.
Your business is about to go through turbo growth, the ad-hoc approach you may have had in the early days is going to need to be shined up. This is the time to define your company culture and really make sure everyone is facing in the same direction.
➡️Your current team are going to need engaging.
During the scaling process, those that have stood by your side all this time are going to feel the shift. The close working relationship you once had is probably going to take a hit during the changes. Make sure they don’t feel forgotten or undervalued.
➡️Find top talent from day one
Hiring and onboarding is a real expense to a business, but it is a 'speculate to accumulate' situation. Take the time to define your person spec and be realistic about their responsibility within the new role. Honestly? We recommend finding someone who is willing to learn new skills and has the initiative to do so.
➡️Be realistic with your goals
It can be very easy to set too many goals and spread yourself too thin - which is going to lead to burn out and effectively poor scaling. Remember, scaling is a process - and you've totally got this.
If you are a company who have already scaled-up, what would be your advice to those starting the process?
