Hey everyone,
I've been reflecting on the past 5 years since IgluMusic was founded (May 2017).
It's been one hell of a ride, and it's been the biggest honour of my life to have worked with so many incredible artists, knowing that the goal was to include everyone, never discriminating against anyone, based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, background.
My aim has always been to help, to shine the light on the amazing artists we've discovered, while offering guidance, information and mentoring to those entering the music scene.
We have created many media projects that again, showcase the work of artists, worked closely with local radio, other music companies, education providers and anyone who could help artists to develop their careers or offer opportunities.
Last month, we held our first 'live' music event since 2018, and it was one hell of a show.
I will be sharing the showreel of the night, and individual performances from this Saturday, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
The reason for this post, is to say that there's been many times where doing my job with Iglu is really difficult.
I don't know many companies, with the exception of Music Splitz, ran by Al Vincent, a great guy and friend, that has attempted to cover so much ground, help as many artists, with proven results, creating over 1000 opportunities, who are as under-rated as Iglu Music.
This isn't a critisism, but just an accurate reflection of the music industry at this level.
The artists are looking for stage shows, radio, funding, support and fans, and to make money.
Venues are looking for great shows and great artists to play their stage, and to make money.
Promoters want to create a strong brand and to make money.
We worked for free for 4 years, to establish ourselves in the industry, get industry contacts and knowledge, and I have ploughed over 7 into the business of my own money, plus 7k of investment into artists projects, stage shows, media creations, and so on.
As we make the change from artist development, and to focus on the world of media creation and signature events, like 'Levels', the ONLY thing I would ever ask for, is the odd share, like and review of our work, or even some acknowledgement that we are here, and doing something positive for the music community.
There are great music companies out there, all doing their own thing to help the industry.
Without companies like this, it would be all self-promotion, or hoping that one of the few companies like Iglu, spot your music or want to promote it, at a high level, at a cost to themselves.
It can be a beautiful marriage between artists and those promoting and pushing independent music, but please spare a thought for those who have the drive and Initiative to enter this very challenging industry, who want to champion independent music.
We've worked with some of the best talent in the U.K, and abroad, that's undeniable, and it's brought dizzying heights aswell as desperate lows.
We may be invisible to many, but if you only care to look a bit deeper, you will see 5 years of effort, 5 years of pushing independent music, 5 years of working to move the scene forward, and many, many working relationships and friendships developed.
I hope you enjoy what comes next.
