One month ago, London hosted another edition of A State of Trance, the global radio show hosted by Armin van Buuren.
Oddly enough, this takes place on a Sunday, but in 2025, it was 33C warm, and with little to no shade in places, fans still braved it all for the music.
Starting with Estiva in Area 3.

Sunday: Almost Missed The Finale

After a few hours of rest, it was time to return to the beach for the final day of Lumi Beach Festival. Keen to stick to my budget, I made a brief detour via Centre Parcs to make use of the free Wi-Fi and rehydrate - the heat was absolutely intense!

I arrived around 1pm and caught the closing moments of Maywave’s set, which was vibrant and uplifting - a lovely surprise as I'd never seen him perform live before, especially since he rarely plays in the UK.

From there, I enjoyed sets from several other artists and met up with Craig Connelly over a relaxed late lunch. His performance was filled with emotion and rich melodic trance - exactly the kind of sound that resonates with me.

After reconnecting with friends and soaking in the music, things took a slightly difficult turn. A friend invited me to join them in the lounge area, but without the proper wristband, I wasn’t allowed in. Later, another friend who was heading out kindly passed along their wristband. Unfortunately, on my way back, I was met with resistance from security. One staff member accused me of dishonesty and held onto my shirt tightly while alerting his supervisor. Thankfully, as the event was winding down, they chose not to escalate the situation further. I decided to move on swiftly and headed over to watch 0Gravity before making my way to the main stage.

Aly & Fila’s sunset set was truly transcendent. Their signature uplifting sound blended beautifully with the golden hour atmosphere. The energy was electric, especially when they ended on Darren Porter’s remix of “We Control The Sunlight.”

Ferry Corsten closed the evening with a powerful performance. I reunited with friends again, and in a lovely turn of events, some of Aly & Fila's entourage generously offered me a backstage wristband. I had the chance to meet the DJ and even got my Creamfields trainers signed - a surreal moment, to say the least.

Later, I made my way over to see Factor B, having promised earlier in the day to catch his set. Brendan’s high-energy performance was exhilarating, full of euphoric builds and thunderous drops - a real treat and a fan favourite.

Before heading out, I stopped by the sandbanks for Lumi’s emotional closing show - 15 minutes of melodic trance and heartfelt farewells. Then came the long walk to Zandvoort train station, powered by a bit of height and determination 😄
Caught the final train and bus, and managed to squeeze in some sleep.

🌅 Luminosity 2025 – Day 1 Reflections at Beachclub Bernies

Returning once again to the shores of Zandvoort, Luminosity Events continues to hold its place as one of the most cherished trance gatherings on the calendar. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Beachclub Bernies, it typically stretches across four thrilling days, drawing fans to the coast for music, reunions, and the soul-soothing charm of Dutch landscapes.

This year’s visit came together unexpectedly for me. It all began during Subculture Thailand in April, chatting with John O'Callaghan Official about Luminosity and wondering: could I experience it on a £500 budget? With flights at £157 and a well-connected hotel near Schiphol coming in at £230, the numbers lined up just right. I'd already secured my ticket, so I made a quiet decision to go, but kept it a surprise.

Travel to The Netherlands hasn’t always been kind to me, with delays and cancellations haunting past trips. But 2025 turned that narrative around: smooth flight, early landing, and a bonus touch; the country now supports contactless transit! Bags dropped, essentials charged, it was time to meet the music.

A gift exchange with American friends at Centre Parcs added warmth to the day, and Modeā’s set, especially 'Chemical Love' and the remix of 'Thierry Henry', were absolute standouts. Yet, I’ll admit, between Modeā and John O'Callaghan Official’s performance, I found myself mentally adrift. The festival atmosphere was vivid, but internally, I struggled with social anxiety, a quiet challenge that’s followed me to stages and green rooms alike.

John’s set brought me gently back—hearing ‘Lunar Divide’, ‘Memphis’, and newer tracks like ‘Never Leave Your Side’ was a powerful balm, and his connection with the crowd never disappoints. Sadly, I missed catching up with him afterwards, but found solace in Bryan Kearney’s sublime set to close out the night.

While not the most euphoric start, the day held its own moments of connection and introspection. With sleep calling, I retreated to the hotel, ready to embrace Day 2 with fresh energy.
