Writing West Midlands We support creative writers and creative writing in the West Midlands region. We are an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

Writing West Midlands is the Literature Development and Delivery Agency for the West Midlands. We exist to help good writing and literature activities flourish in the West Midlands. We focus on work to develop opportunities for creative writers, including supporting young writers and building audiences for writing.

Brook Arts Hub Cathy and Connie work together to share their love of writing with enthusiastic students. In this set of eight workshops, they will cover fiction, memoir and poetry, using writing prompts, in-class discussion, and the work of contemporary writers.

Join novelist, Charlotte ‘Charley’ Barnes, and poet and founder of Nine Arches Press, Jane Commane, along with Jonathan Davidson, Chief Executive of Writing West Midlands for a conversation about developing as a creative writer.

Charley Barnes has published over ten psychological thrillers and as an academic is a specialist in True Crime literature. Jane Commane is a poet and also founder/editor of Nine Arches Press, now based in Worcestershire. They will talk about their journeys to publication and how writers can get their work shared with readers.

Jonathan Davidson will talk about how Writing West Midlands can help writers develop their work, including sources of funding and various ways to find audiences and readers.

They are seeking three UK-based literary translators who are Black, Asian or from Ethnically Diverse backgrounds to join our 2026 Visible Communities programme as residents.

They offering:
3 virtual residencies (March–June 2026)
2 in-person residencies in Norwich (January 2026)

Open to translators working from any language into English, especially those connected to diaspora and heritage language communities in the UK.
