Some people naively thought Martinez, Konsa & Watkins were given an extra week off (missing the Super Cup) due to their workload and to rest up for the season ahead.

There were only two weeks of preseason left, so theirs would be cut down to one with zero preseason minutes. That's poor prep for the start of the season.

The real reason is no doubt due to all three being subject to interest and bids, with the players entertaining the moves.

At this stage of their careers, it's mainly about the money for Watkins and Konsa, as both could considerably increase their wages.

📝 West Ham's Aaron Wan-Bissaka is on his way to provide depth and a tactical alternative in the right-back position. There initially seemed to be some resistance to a loan deal by the Hammers, but that seems to have been ironed out.
