A 20‑year‑old student, Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, from Rochdale has been found guilty of assaulting two female police officers during a violent incident at Manchester Airport in July 2024.

A jury at Liverpool Crown Court convicted Amaaz of causing actual bodily harm to PC Ward, assaulting PC Cook and assaulting the member of the public. They were unable to reach a verdict on the charge of assaulting PC Marsden, which the Crown intent to retry.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson described the convicted violence as “appalling”. He reaffirmed support for the officers involved and highlighted that assaults on officers occur frequently, with around 44 incidents every week in Greater Manchester.
Amaaz is currently remanded in custody. A bail hearing is scheduled and arrangements are being made for a potential retrial on the unresolved count involving PC Marsden.
