Kushikatsu Records Promoting Japanese music in the UK. https://linktr.ee/kushikatsu_records Welcome to Kushikatsu Records - Music from Japan to the World!

We want to expose and promote our favourite Japanese bands to curious music fans and the growing community of converts. We want to give everyone the opportunity to buy this great music at affordable prices. Label boss Alan Farmer set up Bearos Records in 1998 to promote new acts from the West Midlands (UK). With over 70 releases, we arranged numerous showcases for Rough Trade (London) and BBC Radi

o. Bearos acts also recorded radio sessions for John Peel and Jon Kennedy (XFM). Alan is still passionate about music and is a regular visitor to Japan, squeezing in as many gigs and networking opportunities as possible and expanding his extensive CD and vinyl collection! We are not after profit; your purchases will fund future releases, media promotion and even help Japanese bands to personally bring their music on tour to the UK and Europe – that’s the really exciting bit!

Here's the final line-up for Second City Sonic Attack 2 at The Castle & Falcon in Birmingham on Sunday 30th November; a Sunday soiree of indie/alt-rock music.

Post-punkers Modern Literature will be bringing their guitar-based grudges to the main stage having headlined this weekend's Moseley real ale festival - that was a risky mixture!
They are taking a break over the rest of the summer with only a show in August (details in comments) and this one in November currently planned before the end of the year.

Kicking off the afternoon on 30th November will be Slugman who's off-kilter jazz, dreamscape melodies and grimey backbeats reference bands like Black Country, New Roads.
They mention Puma Blue and King Krule but, until i've had a listen to those, i'll chuck in a touch of The Nightingales and Courtesy Group into the mix - you'll not want to miss this lot!

They will be joining spincycle, Sweetpool and Earl Temple Foundation for an unforgettable afternoon/early evening - we know you've got to be at work on Monday!!

Early early birds went so quickly but there's still a few of the £12 early birds before it goes up to £15.
Under 25? Take advantage of our 2 for 1 ticket offer.

Qujaku are a mystical band, digging deep into the human experience, merging personal, collective and imagined histories into a distinct form of storytelling through music. Their imagery weaves mythology, intimacy, spirituality and the everyday into a single song similar to bands like Goat, Codex Seraphini and every great Japanese horror film!

Rooted firmly in Japanese psychedelic music from Les Rallizes Denudes to Boris and Acid Mothers Temple, the band switch effortlessly between quieter pagan mantras and full-on cosmic space-rock, a versatility that also links them to classic British bands like Loop and The Telescopes.

"A Shamanistic like sound builds throughout every song and you can feel the taut nature of the song as it stretches. You know it’s going to happen, but you just don’t know when and then… the band raise their head stocks and the drumsticks to sustained feedback and…. Snap. That energy explodes."

The reviewer from Birminghamlive.com goes on the describe them as an amazing cross between Ministry and Spacemen 3.

Bring an open mind and earplugs for a truly all-enveloping experience!

At Second City Sonic Attack 2 we aim not only to introduce new bands to Birmingham but also give local acts their first chance at playing the big stage at The Castle & Falcon.

With that in mind, the two announcements that we promised for today are:

Earl Temple Foundation
Hailing from Stroud this jazz infused krautrock lounge quintet will be the perfect accompanyment to your Sunday afternoon. Mixing motorik beats with organic vibes, there are elements of Neu!, The Cravats and Bert Kaempfert.

spincycle
Local ambient rockers with bring their spaced out psychedelia to the big stage. When we had them support Shonen Knife a couple of years ago they were a duo but since then they've doubled their number with more layered guitars and moments of Velvet Underground/early JAMC drum beats (though not on their debut single!)

Who saw Qujaku's first Birmingham show at The Sunflower Lounge back in 2017?
What a mind blowing experience that was!

I don't think the birminghamlive.com reviewer was ever the same again:
"A Shamanistic like sound builds throughout every song and you can feel the taut nature of the song as it stretches.
You know it’s going to snap like an over tightened guitar string; a release of energy.
You know it’s going to happen but you just don’t know when and then… the band raise their head stocks and the drumsticks to sustained feedback and…. Snap. That energy explodes."

Here's a taster of that energy from a band described as a cross between Ministry and Spacemen 3.

Sell out alert on this one!

Mass of the Fermenting Dregs just topped 600 000 listeners per month on Spotify - are you one of them?

Mass of the Fermenting Dregs at Hare & Hounds Kings Heath on 6th October will be their first show in Birmingham after loads of sell out UK dates last year.
I saw them at Arctangent and also went to their packed Bristol show. I knew we had to get them here for the next tour - it’s such an infectious mix of alt-rock, pop-punk and grunge.

Any top MotFD tunes people can recommend?

For our next two Kushikatsu shows we return to The Victoria, Birmingham city centre for two nights of psychedelic rock. We've had to play musical chairs with the local supports but now know that we've got the best mix on both nights.

QUJAKU (Japan) + PULSAR + FERGY LH on August 13th sees the return of Qujaku with their thunderous tribal rhythms, massive guitar riffs and otherworldly vocals - it's a black, blacker sabbath, a howling sonic youth.
This is a band with such a track record at both intimate shows and UK festivals. Lose yourself in the enveloping sound of one of Japan's great rock acts!
https://www.skiddle.com/e/40943863

Hibushibire (Psychedelic rock from Japan) +Djabbic 3 on October 17th heralds the return of another favourite Japanese psych act. A night for fans of Hawkwind, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Acid Mothers Temple - Kawabata from AMT is such a fan of 秘部痺れ -Hibushibire that he keeps offering to produce their records and actually recorded with them on their last album on Midlands based Riot Season Records!
https://www.skiddle.com/e/41097988

Each show is only £12 advance/£15 on the door
We are continuing our popular 2 for 1 deal for under 25s
Sorry, The Victoria is an 18+ venue.

On a less cheerful note, we are going to delay Second City Sonic Attack 2 as it would be the day after the Future Days all dayer which is a massive event in Birmingham's music calendar. We've checked other dates with The Castle & Falcon and have started talking to bands about the best date - watch this space!
