The origin of Stilettos Network lies in a group of friends, from across the Midlands, who came together to do something constructive and to arm themselves and other women with the tools to advance in life. Formerly called Sisters of Strength, the name Stilettos was added in 2009 to signify the fun, social side of the network, and also to reflect the fact that we are all about women putting their best foot forward.

“Examining regional accents and our attitudes to them are a way of peering into Britain’s soul." – Sathnam Sanghera, a BLF regular and former BLF guest curator, on Spake: Dialect and Voices from the West Midlands, which was launched at a sell-out event during Birmingham Literature Festival 2019.

Join Writing West Midlands at Waterstones Birmingham on 5th February (6-7pm) where they will be joined by Roy McFarlane, Lisa Blower, Urszula Clark and Jonathan Davidson to discuss more about West Midlands dialect, and the stories which often accompany it!
