What Is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition in which skin cells multiply too fast, leading to dry, red, scaly patches that can be itchy or sore.
🔍 Fast Facts:
▪ Affects 2 - 3% of people in the UK
▪ Not contagious
▪ Typically peaks in the late teens to early 30s and between the ages of 50 and 60
▪ Comes in flare-ups and remissions
🧠 Causes & Triggers:
Caused by an overactive immune system. Triggers include stress, cold and dry weather, infections, skin injury, some medications, and alcohol.
🧴 Types Include:
Plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic (rare) psoriasis.
💡 Can It Be Cured?
No cure, but symptoms can be managed with:
▪ Emollients like AproDerm
▪ Steroid creams
▪ Light therapy
▪ Lifestyle changes
How Does AproDerm Work?
▪ Forms a protective layer over the skin surface, rehydrating it and helping restore the skin barrier. Rehydration of the skin helps relieve the itching, irritation, discomfort, and dryness associated with psoriasis and softens psoriatic patches, making them less likely to crack and cause the skin to become sore.
▪ Removes the scales which helps with the application of other topical psoriasis treatments.
▪ In mild cases you may only need AproDerm to keep your psoriasis under control.
In addition to the above, colloidal oatmeal, the active ingredient in AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, has been clinically proven to improve dryness, scaling, and roughness, as well as protect and restore the epidermal barrier damaged by psoriasis, through its direct anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities while soothing and relieving the itch and irritation that you get with dry skin conditions like psoriasis.
