Part 2: As an event host, I know all too well that things can – and often do – go sideways. The real skill? Making it all look smooth and effortless, even when the world behind the scenes is on fire. It's something most people don’t even realise is happening!

So there I was, job done, lounging in my trainers, listening to Diane Abbott MP, casually hanging out with my new friends from Manchester (we bonded over train drama, of course). That’s when I noticed a missed call from Selina Brown BA (Hons), MA, PgC, the powerhouse behind this incredible event.

I messaged her back to explain I was in the middle of a packed auditorium, only to see the words: "interview Eve now." My heart skipped a beat. I was up! And just like that, I bolted out of my seat and sprinted across the Barbican like it was an Olympic race, straight to Eve, the rapper, actress, and now author, with zero prep time and a full audience waiting. Talk about being thrown into the deep end!

I had no time to process that I was standing in front of one of the biggest stars I’ve ever interviewed. It was showtime. Sink or swim. And then, mid-interview, Eve said those magic words: “That’s a good question.” My heart soared! A compliment like that from someone of her caliber – who’s been interviewed by the best in the business – is next-level.

Afterward, it felt surreal following her through the crowd, security in tow, as I tried to wrap my head around what just happened. In those final moments, Eve saw something in me, paused, and poured words of encouragement into my soul. She didn’t have to, but that moment meant everything. I’ll never forget it.

As I left, it took me 20 minutes to get out because so many people stopped me to say how impressed they were with my interview. And then Selina told me I was the only person she trusted to step in last-minute – that sealed the deal on an unforgettable day.

This year has been the hardest of my life. Losing my son shook me to my core, and everything that followed has tested my confidence in ways I couldn’t have imagined. But Saturday wasn’t just about meeting an icon or having not one, but two huge fangirl moments. It was about rediscovering myself.

Eve told me it’s my time to be heard. So, if you need an event host, a panel facilitator, or an interviewer and you’re asking, “Who’s That Girl?” Well, I’m your girl!

I'm a Risk Management Specialist who turns potential disasters into mere hiccups. By night (& sometimes day), I'm a Broadcaster, Presenter & Event Host. In the boardroom, I'm the Non-Executive Director who keeps things spicy (and compliant). And because sleep is for the weak, I'm also the brains behind Coco Luxe Beautique, proving I can handle any crisis - from corporate meltdowns to chipped nails. The common thread? Whether I'm taming risks or unruly panelists, I've got the golden touch in crisis management. Warning: Exposure to my interviewing skills may cause uncontrollable truth-telling and occasional bouts of inspiration.

My experience at the Black British Book Festival was phenomenal. (Part 1)

My day started at 5.30am and throughout my journey to London, I couldn't stop thinking about my son. I wondered if I would have gone if he was still here. Would I have left him with his father or my mother? It never occurred to me that he was with me anyway. But as the day unfolded, I felt his presence & blessing. My baby boy really is my angel 💙.

As I walked into the venue at 9.30am, I had to let my thoughts go & focus on the task for the day. To interview the amazing, broadcaster, journalist & author, Charlene White. I'm rarely nervous about interviews but it felt daunting to interview a storytelling & broadcasting powerhouse. I made a bathroom visit to pray for the ability to put my best.

It was a privilege to sit with Charlene. She's a brilliant woman who's presence is dynamic and striking. The interview went well and the audience loved her. Her book is compelling and heartfelt. I am truly grateful to have met her.

As I watched Charlene go to her book signing, I wondered how I might be able to offer more value and inspiration as she has done with her tenacity and grace.

I kicked off my heels as soon as I got off the stage. My work for the day was done. Or at least I thought it was 🤷🏾‍♀️.

But unbeknownst to me, I was about to ask, Who's That Girl? I'll tell you more about it in part 2.
