THE CULTURE MAG REMEMBERS: DJ BUXLEY 🕊️

In 2021, The Culture Mag had the opportunity to interview Buxley and learn more about the person behind Boxout.

Years later, we had the privilege of experiencing Boxout from another perspective — attending Boxout Fest and being part of an event that had grown into a space for music, creativity, community and connection.

What Buxley built was bigger than an event. It created opportunities for creatives, gave emerging talent a platform and brought people together in spaces where they could simply enjoy themselves and create memories.

We are grateful that our journey crossed with his, and that The Culture Mag got to document a small part of it.

Rest in eternal peace, Buxley. 🕊️

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, Boxout family and everyone whose life he touched.

Thank you for the culture. ❤️

THE CULTURE NEWS 🌍 | FEMICIDE: A WORLDWIDE CRISIS

How many more women have to become statistics before we stop treating femicide as an isolated tragedy?

From South Africa to Mexico and beyond, women continue to lose their lives in violence connected to gender. Behind every number is a person — a daughter, sister, mother, friend, colleague, somebody with a life, a future and people who loved them.

In South Africa, the discovery of the bodies of nine women in Ekurhuleni has once again brought the country’s femicide and gender-based violence crisis into focus.

And globally, the latest UN figures estimate that nearly 50,000 women and girls were killed by intimate partners or family members in 2024 — around 137 every day.

But this conversation cannot only begin when another woman becomes a headline.

It has to include prevention. Protection. Investigation. Accountability. Justice.

Because femicide doesn’t happen in isolation.

Women deserve to live without fear of becoming a statistic.

🕊️ Say their names. Remember their lives. Demand better.

CULTURE NEWS 🇬🇧

Jorja Smith is opening up about the reality behind the spotlight.

After years of public scrutiny, body-shaming and burnout, the British singer stepped away from social media and returned to her hometown of Walsall.

Now, she’s entering a new musical era — and doing things on her own terms.

🎪 THE CULTURE CHECK-IN | BOXOUT FEST 2026 🇬🇧

BIRMINGHAM SHOWED OUT — AGAIN.

Boxout Fest has officially done it AGAIN. 🔥

For the fourth consecutive year, Boxout has sold out, bringing together 6,000+ attendees across two days at Luna Springs in Digbeth.

And the numbers only tell part of the story.

From Amapiano, Hip-Hop and R&B to Dancehall, Soca and Reggae, Boxout continues to create a space where different sounds, cultures and communities collide — and Birmingham’s youth culture gets to take centre stage.

This year’s festival brought together artists, DJs, creatives and music lovers for a weekend that felt like more than just a festival.

It was community.

It was culture.

It was Birmingham. 🖤

Four years.
Four sell-outs.
6,000+ people and counting.

And if there’s one thing Boxout has proven, it’s that there’s an audience for events that genuinely reflect the culture.
