Dear Residents of HBO,

Thank you for welcoming me to your village as your new Parish Clerk, I'm glad to be here.

If there are questions around the governance of the meetings, I would appreciate if you could email me at [email protected] instead of solely posting on social media, as I may not see your concerns on Facebook.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Today we commemorate VJ Day – Victory over Japan Day 🇬🇧🌺

On this day in 1945, the Second World War finally came to an end. We remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all those who served. We honour the memory of those who did not return, and our gratitude to the veterans who lived to see the peace they helped to secure.

We will remember them.

You may have seen some information recently regarding the resignation of our Neighbourhood Plan Working Group. We feel it necessary to correct some assertions made.

Firstly, disappointingly this was communicated via a public Facebook post instead of directly to Councillors. The main reasoning provided is that we did not organise a meeting with the group quickly enough, and that feedback on two documents was not provided on time.

This is a misleading version of events. We offered earlier meeting dates that were declined by the leader of the group. Following the meeting Councillors were given “a couple of weeks” to provide comments on these documents, which would have been exactly 10:30pm last night. The Clerk, who is part-time, was understandably not compiling this summary at 11pm last night. The Clerk also sent reassurance on Tuesday that this was in progress and would be sent as soon as possible. It would have been reasonable and normal to allow a couple of days for the responses to be compiled. Those councillors on the committee knew efforts were being made to get responses.

We appreciate all the work that the group has done, but there has been much toxicity and continuous threats of resignation. We look forward to completing the Neighbourhood Plan ourselves to existing deadlines but the resignations make that harder as will need time to form a new committee and working group.

Councillors are all volunteers who give up their time for the good of the village, something which I think is often forgotten.
