Tommy Fleetwood awards first-ever elite school scholarship to budding young golfer

A top ten world golfer has awarded an up-and-coming talent a full scholarship to one of the UK’s most prestigious sporting schools.

Tommy Fleetwood has named budding golfer Oliver Coleman, 16, as Rossall School’s first ever Tommy Fleetwood Scholar.

It comes after the school announced a new partnership with the World Number 8 earlier this summer, which has seen it become the home of a new Tommy Fleetwood Academy (TFA).

Oliver, alongside other young golfers who study at Rossall, will receive some of the world’s best coaching and tuition in Rossall’s specialist performance environment on the Fylde Coast.

In a personalised video message to Oliver, Tommy said: “Hey Ollie, I just wanted to congratulate you for being the first ever to earn the Tommy Fleetwood Scholarship.

“I’m so happy to have you and am so proud of you and everything you’ve achieved so far.

“You totally deserve it and I’m looking forward to everything you’re going to accomplish in the future.

“Thank you for already being such a great representative for us.”

As part of the partnership, Tommy will pick a new student every year to become the school’s official Tommy Fleetwood Scholar – which includes free weekly boarding.

Oliver, originally from Stockport, has already made a name for himself in the game – having been crowned Northern Counties Boys Champion in 2026 and is ranked in Europe’s top 500 amateur golfers.

Oliver said: “A big thank you to Tommy, his wife Clare, and the TFA for awarding me a scholarship at Rossall.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to be part of Rossall, working with great coaches while receiving a great education.

“I’m really looking forward to starting in September and continuing to develop and improve my golf.

“I'm excited for what’s ahead!”

The Autumn term has already proven a success for Rossall, with its indoor golf facility having received a significant upgrade and one of its Year 12 students having won the Spanish U18 Open aged just 16.

📟 Callout Monday 7th September 2026 🛟

On Monday evening at 7pm, our RNLI volunteer inshore lifeboat crew were paged along with our colleagues from HM Coastguard Fleetwood, to assist a yacht with one person onboard, that had run aground on the mornings ebbing tide.

RNLI Fleetwood volunteer lifeboat crew launched our charities D-class inshore lifeboat D-853 'Harbet', to standby the stranded vessel until it refloated on the incoming tide.

The yacht was fully afloat at 8pm and was escorted to Fleetwood Marina by our inshore lifeboat, arriving at Fleetwood Marina at 8:14pm where our colleagues from HM Coastguard Fleetwood was waiting to assist with mooring the yacht.
