A throwback to a Yellow Pages ad I made back in 2007 — life was simpler then. I'd been shooting and edting weddings as a freelance wedding filmmaker and associate shooter for local wedding film producers and had cut my teeth on many weddings in that time. And business was good from the flow of the ad attention.

It’s been an incredible journey shooting hundreds of weddings across the UK and Europe, creating memories with amazing couples along the way. 💍❤️

With over 20 years in creative arts — from music and photography to filmmaking — storytelling has always been my passion. 🎶📸🎥 I believe every love story is unique, and capturing those genuine, emotional moments is what I do best.

Well, what do we have here? A wedding held in a Yorkshire church, then onto a marquee on the village green. How fabulously English. A beautiful wedding day in the countryside for all to experience.

This is what documentary wedding videography is all about, capturing the whole day. Not just the pretty shots, but the atmosphere. The guests, the feel, the sounds.

The Dreys in Kent—a secluded woodland retreat that feels untouched by time, a hidden world where weddings unfold with an effortless, organic beauty. Nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside, The Dreys isn’t just a venue; it’s an experience, a setting that invites couples to create something personal, something uniquely theirs.

What can say about the amazing ‘Benemily’ woodland wedding? A Kent woodland setting with vegan food, an acrobat serving champagne, karaoke in the wedding ceremony, and did I mention the fabulous vegan food? It’s not very often you get to shoot wedding videography in such a secluded and idyllic woodland wedding venue. The Dreys was unlike any wedding venue I had shot at before. Set within 80 acres of privately owned land within the Kent Downs, Squirrel Wood is a stunning ancient woodland, with provision for functions, and events.

As a wedding filmmaker, this is where I thrive. My approach is all about storytelling—capturing moments as they unfold, without interference, without staged direction. It’s about the stolen glances, the laughter around the firepit, the way guests let their guard down in a place that feels like home. The Dreys encourages this kind of honest filmmaking—there’s nothing forced here, just pure, unfiltered emotion.

Help! I need somebody!

That's all I need to hear when a fellow wedding pro needs a helping hand in their hour of need.

The call came in, and the shout-out answered... let's do this. Let's do this for weddings.

Dominic needed a hand to keep the show on the road after his buddy and business partner had a serious family issue to contend with. Being halfway through an amazing 3-day wedding celebration and with no wedding videographer at hand to help out, a message came to me via a few of my fellow wedding legends

Matt! Can you help these guys out?

Well, I sure can...

I was happy to strap up and get the wedding videographer eye ready to rock.

It was a pleasure to help out a brother in need.

In the wedding world, it's great to have reliable support to help when the world throws you a curve ball. I've been helped before when I had a serious car crash on route to a wedding that rendered me unable to make the wedding. So, I know how it feels to be left in a state of panic.

The moral of the story is to be good to the world, and it will be good back to you.

Bosh... oosh... how long can I keep a straight face for whilst trying to do my best Steve McQueen deadpan to camera? And more so, why am I bothering you guys with pics of me?

However, before I spill the beans and tell all, a big shout to my buddy and wedding brother for the fab efforts in capturing the above moments. I dig what you do! You rock.

Well it all started when an amazing human asked me to attend the inaugural opening event of the Federation of Wedding Photographers and Wedding Videographers.

Fedwed (for short) is a fantastic new idea, bringing people together from the wedding world. Sharing ideas and stories, business info and support. What's not to love?

I stepped into the weekend with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Let's do this!

But I need not fear or loath. I need not worry as everybody at the event was cool as ice. The event went amazingly, and there were lots of faces met and hands pumped.

Thanks to all the organisers for putting on such an ace day. I will be signing up, as I think you should, too. If you are in the field of capturing wedding memories, it's a must. Get out there and get social.
